No, I have the same problem occasionally. I usually have to wait a while before being able to connect, and then it works. I have heard reports that some people have this problem due to their cookie settings. It may be worth checking out.

hmm, after changing my proxy server I can login just fine. They must have a limit on the number of times that each IP can login in a day.

You're right Taw, it is my understanding that that is the most common cause. However, I have had to help people to configure their cookies settings which, on some occasions, has fixed the problem. They were isolated cases though, and I haven't had one for about two years.

I agree with RILMS, probably downtime - resetting the servers for optimisation, updating virus protection, stuff like that as I don't tend to get problems with yahoo!

Possibly. But that's why companies, especially large ones such as Hotmail and Yahoo! have backup servers. The backups are obviously not terribly effective if they cannot offer their services to all users when the primaries are down! That would cost them thousands due to the users who cannot check their email, and thus do not see the advertisements which power the company. Think about it. There must be more to it than updates, etc.

but most dial-ins are free now aren't they? so obv. quality of service is going to go right down. Also it's a case of when you go on. When i was on cr*ppy dial-up, if I tried to get on Freeserve between about 4pm and 9pm I'd usually get chucked off or not get on at all, any other time was ok. When i started moaning my bag off at them, they fessed up that it was demand, too many people trying to get on all at once - and FS are big!
