Day of the Dead....That was the one in the Mall right?

Post Fri Jan 09, 2004 11:39 am

yes it was, the new one is essentially an updated remake, looks cool from Arch's trailer; posts great trailers doesn't he?

still on films, what about "Eraserhead" for uncomfortable disturbing viewing? D. Lynch's best work imho, even better than Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, and Dune. possibly even pips Twin Peaks (only because I didn't figure it out until about a third of the way through the series, thinking "wtf?"

as i haven't seen Mulholland Drive yet, i can't compare to that. I'm told it's bl**dy brilliant. Still, Eraserhead has to be the most disturbed film I've ever seen.. ever.

just to drag it up one last time! One of my fav films of all time is Baraka, by Mark Magidson. This is an example of pure film-making at its best, just sound and vision, no dialogue. The cinematography is spellbindingly beautiful and took ten years just to film and edit, and it is the best editing I've ever seen. nothing in this film is accidental or unconsidered, it is PERFECT visual construction. i had it on grainy VHS for years, but got given the DvD yesterday and it's brought the whole thing to life for me again. I spent 20 mins blarting afterwards, it is so powerful.

I didn't get on with Eraserhead - I watched it twice, desperately trying to enjoy it. Couldn't sorry. IMHO Twin Peaks was the dogs bits (apart from the movie, which disappointed me because of the number of answers - I preferred it when I didn't know )

I think I've mentioned before that I'm a bit of a Tarantino freak....I'm sure I remember having the Scorcese argument on here at some point Anyone else chomping at the bit for Kill Bill pt.2? or am I alone?

Have you seen 'Ultraviolet'? It's a very different vampire-story, stylish, dark and made in Britain. They never utter the 'v'-word, just calls them 'leeches'. The main-character is played by Jack.Davenport. You'll find infor here:

@ Taw,

Remember you told me about Les Amants Criminals? Well, I have seen most of it. I saw it at a scout camp when I was a staff member. It was a good movie.

@RILMS, nice to see you back.

I might re-read through this thread for some movies to watch, this season is the worst for new movies on the shelfs and especially at the theatres.
