Shattered, plus a question or two

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Shattered, plus a question or two

Seen it? Started last night on Channel 4 (UK), and is torture! A group of 10 volunteers have to stay awake for a week, and if someome falls asleep, £1,000 is knocked off of the winnings, which is a hefty £100,000! If you haven't seen it, you oughta!

The people moved in on Saturday at 8am, having been woken up at 7am, and have got to stay awake until next sunday! i wouldn't do it, but 100k would be nice! Personally I've never missed a night's kip, the least sleep I've ever had is 2 hours, the day I got Freelancer, and I was a moaning twat for the rest of the day!

Oh well! To keep peeps interested, have you ever gone without a night's sleep? Stupid question really. OK then, how long has anybody on TLR stayed awake?

Yep, did some stupid thing called "Brandysnaps" with the venture scouts. Somehow the idea of hiking to various checkpoints throughout the night and completing mental and physiacl challenges at each checkpoint, sounded like a good idea. I had been awake since before 6am due to work and didn't finish Brandysnaps till past 6am. I got back to the start point (a random scout hall), gave my sleeping bag to one of the girls who had managed to forget her own one and tried to sleep on the cold floor while my legs continued to cramp. Still, my team came second only to an all male group of 20-22 year olds, so it wasn't all bad :p

On my first week pulling the nightshift I got two hours of sleep the first four days. That was bl**dy awful. No pub for me that weekend

I once had to do 6 gigs back to back in 6 different cities. Started Thursday afternoon, set up did the gig loaded out at about 5pm. Drove to the next city, set up, sound checked, did the gig, loaded out at about 4am. Drove to the next city and carried on like this until the final gig which loaded out at about 5am on the sunday morning, where I fell asleep on the tour bus until tuesday.

Would not recommend it to anyone though...its actually quite painful in a number of ways. Your stomach knots as if you're extremely hungry but no amount of food gets rid of it (kinda like strychnine, for those of you that may understand that)....your head feels like its 20 times heavier and your eyes sting like you've had red hot pokers pushed into them...not even mentioning that every muscle in your body feels like you've run a marathon and you have the concentration span of a stoned goldfish.

But I'd give 5 days a go for £100K....I think the only thing with me is that I get bored easily after 24 hours...thats gonna be the real killer for them.

We had the same show here in Holland, and you could win half a million euros. Longest period I ever stayed awake? 48 hours I believe. And those were an active 48 hours I had a waterpolo match, went to a big dance event (Sensation White) and had to work on, the next day I had a Lan-party and I had to train

i dont know if i could do it, but i'd give it a go. I get a bit nuts though.
After a pretty hectic couple of days where i had an all night revision fest and then a minute nights sleep recovery (about 3 hours sleep in 3 days) i kinda went mad and started shouting at everyone. I got exhausted talking and just sat, mumbled and swore at everything. I also forgot important things, like what the hell i was talking about at the beginning of the sentence. They have things to do to keep them awake though, so i think its possible. Thing is, when i'm really tired i just sit around and watch TV. Getting warm, doing nothing, is not really endurance.

I didn't even know that it was safe to do that much less possible.
The most I ever lasted was about 32 hours non-stop. After that, you could have
detonated bombs next to me, you wouln't have been able to rouse me.

try doing it in an old farm building outside Farrancassidy in the middle of winter looking for Paddies trying to float weps into Lough Erne, and you can't turn a light on, strike up a fag or make any noise, and stay awake so you can report obs back to the CP. Cold, miserable, bored, dog tired and living out of cold tins. And I thought intelligence work was glamorous. Yeh right, I could live like a tramp in civvy street if i wanted to. Cr*p.

Did a training mission at JRTC (Joint Readiness Training Center) in Louisiana
it was basically a 30 day war sim. pulling security in the January weather wasn't no joke especially when we had to stay awake for a couple days while being attacked....we would catch little bites of sleep for maybe an hour at a time but then they'd just attack us again. then during the day we would march all day. then set in and pull security. and just about the time the sleep rotation got established.....guess what? they attacked again.....basically it was a month long daze.

went quick though!
