a SERIOUS descussion on Utopias.

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

YOU started it! See? There is only one "Esq", and that's me! Therefore, I must assume that you are referring to me.

Note: Did anyone else think I'm female??? If so, why????

I never thought you were female. However if thats the way you want to live your life, that's your affair takes all sorts to make a world

Now if someone accused me of being female, I wouldn't bother denying it, I'd play up to it and "drag" it out for as long as I could get amusement value out of it. You just missed a golden opportunity for days of winding-up fun!

Hmmm Esquilax NOT female. Hmmmm.

Well, since you are in Oz I supposed I should have expected that you'd call yourself SheilaX or something if you were a female.

On the other hand I guess, being in the US, it was a little awkward to understand the "lax" ending in your name. I mean, lax as in

But... in the end, no. Your thread topics were not very female.... OK maybe, just maybe you could be a hyper-masculine female but that's too much of a stretch for me conjure.

Question is, though. <directing side long glance at Taw> Do you look good in a skirt? Someone here <directing another side long glance at Taw> seems to take pride in cutting a good figure in one of those.

BUT.....I DIGRESS.....

Getting back on thread, I would agree with everyone here who suggests that there can be no Utopia if it is to be created and run by human beings. We're just not cut out for it. Now, if human beings were kidnapped by space Utopians and taken to live in someone else's Utopia, this may be possible except that I question whether another species' idea of Utopia would suit a human being.

I read a SciFi book when people suddenly realized they're living in someone's Utopia, then found out that this was some kind of a gift from a superior race, so some of them decided to create a world of their own and withdraw, but some stayed as they either liked things they were or weren't sure about their wishes. I'd probably be one of the latter. Could be fine to create a world of my own and have it run my way, but then I wouldn't be able to take many people I like with me as their worldview is different, or I'd have to make them completely obedient, which would make them something different from what they are. Doesn't sound good. If I were omnipotent, I'd probably leave things what they are. On a collective (not individual!) level, I guess we have the world and society we deserved, since we created it ourselves.

Any kind of "Utopia" is utterly impossible due to basic human nature: the thirst for power.

EG Imagine, that every human alive today declared themselves Emperor/Empress of all existence.
Emperor1: I rule
Emperor2: no me
Emperor3: both of you are wrong, I rule this land

It aint pretty

Taw and Indy - That's good to know . The last thing I need is an element of ambiguous sexuality thrown into my image (or lack thereof) here on the TLR forums.

Taw - I doubt that I could "drag it up". With my luck, I'd just end up annoying and/or offending people. I think I'll leave that to you, here's an opening; "Hey Taw, are you a chick?" .

Indy - "SheilaX", that's a good one. Although "SharonX" might be closer to the mark here in Victoria (at least in the Western suburbs ). And I'm not wearing a skirt! It's a kilt!
