WWII games

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

WWII games

Who else is a fan of World War II games? Discuss them here. My favorites are Call of Duty, for kick-ass gameplay, and Battlefield 1942 for its mod-compatibility, AND vehicles. BATTLEFIELD VIETNAM, BABY!! Who else is getting it? Y'know what would be cool, a modern version of BF1942. M-16s, M-4s, SGG-3000, MP5s, etc. And modern tanks and aircraft, helicopters, etc. EA games will get there eventually, I hope.

I like Battlefield 1942. What servers do you like for it?
Battlefield Vietnam is a Vietnam war game... as far as I can tell.
Medal of Honor is a good game... from what I have heard.

I've never heard of BF Desert Storm, and therefore, I think you're getting confused with Desert Combat, the BF mod that takes all the WWII-ness out of BF and makes it more, um, modern..-ness.

Edit: I forgot to mention, my current favourites as far as WWII goes are BF1942, and CoD. Oh, and I also like IL-2 sturmovik, but that's more of a flight sim.

Call of Duty and Battlefeild 1942 for me, both excellent FPS's. I got Call of Duty a few weeks ago, and I still can't stop playing.

Did anyone ever play Vietcong? Definately one of the most underrated FPS war games in a long time. Personally I put it almost on par with Call of Duty for entertainment value. The tunnel missions can get do your head in, but the rest of the game is brilliant.

yeh i played Vietcong and i thought it was ok and really didn't deserve the criticism it got (like DF:BHD which i also enjoyed, although i wouldn't say either one was brilliant due to the flaws, but both were brought to a swift end when I got FL)

CoD is monstrous and the best WW2 game i've ever played
MoH:AA naturally
RTCW which i adored
Day of Defeat when it's played properly and not by tw*ts
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (waaaaayyy back when)
Il-2 Sturmovik which i think is a work of pure genius and utterly flawless
Sudden Strike 2 which is glorious once you figure the dam' thing out!
Hidden & Dangerous series
Commandos series
CFS series
Castle Wolfenstein 3D, i played it to death and so did you
Aces over Europe
B-17: the Mighty 8th (very challenging game)

sorry i can't abide BF:1942 although I hear good things about BF:Vietnam

Yes, Vietcong. I still have it on my comp. Those quick missions are great for when you only got a couple minutes. But I totally agree on the tunnel thing, I had to put it down for almost a week when I got lost down there, I nearly threw my comp out the window

Btw, to get back on topic (sort of); anyone here play Axis&Allies? It's super!

Someone gave me a copy of COD, and it was the first WW2 FPS that I have played. It was pretty damn good, especially since it showed the war from the Soviet angle, which I feel has been underrepresented. I was interested to find the "Enemy at the Gates" takeoff, but it was a fun mission. The sound in COD was excellent as well. BF: 1942 is supposed to be very good as is Vietcong. I may pick them up when they are nice and cheap (as usual ).

I don't know about you guys but I wish they'd do some games set in WWI. The last decent WWI game was Red Baron 3D, I spent years playing that game in an online squadron but my interest eventually faded and the only WWI game on the horizon is Knights over Europe, but I have my doubts about it making it to production.

I think the reason most developers won't touch a WWI FPS is because of the fallacy that the entire war was in trenches. While the most part of the war was in trenches there were many notable battles on open ground.

the only real wwII flight sim that's even worth mentioning is jane's ww2f. go check out ww2fighters.org. that site has much the same community feel as this one does, complete with a kickass group of people dedicated to the sim and its improvement through mods.
the realisim of each aircraft's flight characteristics is surpassed only by il2 (so i've read, i'm not a fan of it), and the terrains are breathtaking at altitude (even close up with cultural detail cranked).
anyway, this is only an opinion...
probably gonna get flamed by all the il2 fanatics now...
sigh...
fire away.

You mean to tell me that with all the crap busted around here, you start with the f[%&*ing ice machine?!?
