I don't think GTA 3 counts as a 1st person shooter, more 3rd person except for sniper scope and machine gun.

As for a FPS I don't think I've played any since Duke Nukem 3D, I enjoyed all the city levels, but the rest of the game wasn't that great.

I really enjoyed Dark Forces, I would say this was my favorite FPS. Wait, I did play Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight, so I have played one FPS since Duke 3D, but I didn't like it as well. Or was it 3rd person? I know there was at least option for 3rd.

I like FPS, since they're very relaxing: the best way to relax and calm one's nerves after a hard day is to shoot someone - the more, the better. Of all FPS I'd prefer Battlefield 1942 because all other games of this type cease to be interesting once you finish them - the enemies are always at the same spots, while in BF 1942 they're not as predictable. Besides, there are not too many games where you can play for the "baddies" - there's a Desert combat mod where you can even play for Iraq. Funny.

Just remember...if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

I quite enjoyed duke nukem 3d too - well, again, at least at first. I have quite a few FPS games because usually they're the kinda crap that I can throw on for 20 minutes while my missus is on the phone

I'm very addicted to the Delta Force series (especially LW), I like the sneak-up style ones too such as Hitman 2 etc, but I think my favourite FPS has to be Max Payne - even if its just for the slow motion effect. I keep meaning to check out the sequel - anyone recommend it?

Operation Flashpoint was the most complete, satisfying gaming experience ive ever had from an FPS. The game though, is not without its faults, its clunky and bug ridden, the models mostly look like ass compared to the games we have today, but its still far and wide my fave shooter.

I seriously Enjoyed Operation Flashpoint for the Tactical Gaming, But my alltime favorite FPS when it comes to gore: Postal 2, Its just fun when you are having a bad day, and you are pissed at everything. Just put on the headset, put he CD in the Drive and Blast away. And I really liked SOF II, for it's realism. Sur the first part was fun with all those fancy blast Toys, But SOF II was better.

zlo, where do you get the desert combat mod that you mentioned?

I really like Battlefield 1942 (Road To Rome, Secret Weapons) then lets see, HALO, Operation Flashpoint, what else........ Call Of Duty. but GTA3 is not a FPS, its a 3rd person Crime Simulation hehe

not suprisingly it is more popular than the newest expansion (secret wepons) which in my view stank.
Also out for bf 1942 is the 1.5 patch which is great fun

But my favorite is probably halo or NOLF2
