I was a teacher, i quit. Incredibly awful job if you are not the type that likes to despair, pull hair out, get accused of anything.

Easiest way to put it:

Leave your keys on desk - students will steal your car and burn it (no joke at the school i was at)

Student doesn't want to work, nothing you can do. Have to stop lesson to have pupil removed. Cannot touch, restrain or do anything else for fear of being suspended on assault charges. Heck, there is a story whilst being trained that a teacher was sued after trying to save a students life. The student lived, but was paralised due to teachers actions. The student would have been braindamaged if it wasn't for teacher, but the teacher was still sued.

Cannot through pupils out sometimes, as where would they go. Pupils don't obey what you tell them UNLESS they like you. However, during training, they were good until my tutor came in to observe. THEN they played up like hell, which caused me to get a horrific review. Why? Because they saw a vulnerable time to get their own back, they knew i would get a bad review. After that, it was impossible. I left not long after. I worked 80-90 hours a week, and my planning was spot on in the end. Content of lessons was good, activities varied from okay to excellent, but the students just DIDN'T want to do them - all because i hadn't stamped enough authority at the start (first lesson). Soon as that tutor lesson was over, so was my career.........and i did love teaching.

It exhausted me, drained me and near killed me. The hardest job i have ever done, and there were no thanks or rewards. It was hell, and the kids were horrible. I decided to leave after i thought about why i wanted to feel like this for the rest of my life, stressed, tired, no time, no life. Was that what i wanted - where when i went home i STILL had 6 hours work to do?

I was teaching 11-18 Chemistry, 11-16 Biology and Physics.

I had 7 classes of three lessons each, which spanned the 17 years of science that i had to teach. In ONE year i was supposed teach and know everything of those 17 years. Other subject teachers had just the 8 to know. Nice eh? Go figure. Science teachers get the worst end, specially as we have risk assessments and other things to sort out. (saftey)
Don't teach, ever.

lol - i got paid the equivalent of approximately 2 pounds an hour - or about 3 dollars for the americans. 600 pounds per month, and i clocked up an easy 300 hours each month, which for a training salary was bloody awful.

Coppers get about 1200 per month during training, and only work for around 60 hours (that includes revision time and stuff) a week, we did all day every day, and the weekend daytimes too. Only time you got was Friday evening and saturday evening. No other time, as i was working flat out. 600 for four weeks of those hours??? Dunno what i was thinking at the time.
