Faster then Light travel: is it possible?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

if a ship can decellerate the concept of time around the ship with a factor of 30 square

Decellerate is a bad word! Its accelerating in the other direction. Man that word hurts to hear!

quick answer> No

It is better to aim for the stars and hit the tops of the trees than to aim for nothing and hit it dead on.

@[PCaRdAmInE[X, how can it be going with the speed of light, if they cannot reach it with accelarating

he's q right though, theoretically if u are travelling AT* the speed of light, u can go faster than it. Unf. if ur not, u can't. Anyway we don't know of anything that actually can travel faster than the speed of light, cos tachyons are purely hypothetical. some people confuse them with neutrinos, but they are not the same at all.

*n.b. AT, not NEAR or almost at, but actually AT the speed of light. that's important, because u can't actually travel AT the speed of light, only "near" to it. Anyone still think FtL is possible?

What exactly are nutrinos? All I can remember is we can't seem to catch them.

My goodness Taw, how long have you been a Port Commodore?

Post Thu Nov 27, 2003 10:14 pm

it escaped me too! shows where shameless spamming can get u though, doesn't it?

sorry, forgot the neutrinos! they're "fundamental" particles, similar to electrons, except they don't carry electrical charge, therofore they are not affected by electro-magnetic forces and can travel vast distances and pass through quite dense matter. They are extremely difficult to isolate or detect, and uv probably got some passing through u right now!

also try reading this!

According to a Greek dude named Xeno, if you're in a stadium and there's a row behind and in front of you, and the row in front moves one space to the right and you move a space to the left, relative to the last row you moved one space but to the first row you moved two. Because you cannot have two speeds at once, there is no motion. Therefore, you cannot go beyond light because neither you nor the light moves. Hey, I didn't write this stuff. --- RR16

gravity would be a dependant variable, it depends on mass

light is independant

in my theory EMMIR as arania called it
is the only possible way to have "trade lanes" which will prove innefective if we ever make something like that
jump drives will be the only way we can travel long distances
lets leave it to the scientists to figure that out

I think wormholes can only be opened if u r going a certain speed
if we can't make anything to reach that speed then the only possible way to open one would be to lanch into space and go full force back down at earth

who knows where the ship will go next
maybe a parallel universe?

oh and Loc, what IS normal speeds anyway?

something is messed up here
i went to see what users were online and i saw 2 clonetrooper119's...wierd
one was on 10 minutes, and the other was on 2 minutes!?!?!?

and if it doesn't work u will be also in an other universe

magnetism
back to their again...

is their a distance where the magnets puss themself faster from eachother
i don't wanna hear short distance same pools to eachother, co'z i know that already...

if their is none, i wanna know why the universe doesn't slow down, but speed up... and what happends if this will reach the speed off light...

will that place what moves by that speed disapeare in spacetime
will it goes still faster and faster till it crashes into something
or gonna do it something else

then u can know iff trafeling faster then light is possible
but then still.... figuring out how to do that is the big prob

@RR, it's always amazed me how people like Xeno and Lucretius (and others) were able to get so many essentials of the principles of matter correct 2500 years without any technology or advanced mathematics.

(actually I suspect that i do know the answer to that riddle)

@taw, don't forget Galileo, who made the first telescope

and said the moon wasn't the middle of our solar system, but the sun is... and that the earth wasn't flat, but round (like a pancake)

but the church didn't believed him and suppose that he was possesed by the devil

Galileo was drawing on the same body of esoteric ancient knowledge. The Church knew all along he was telling the truth, they just didn't want anyone outside the Cathoilic Church to know, it would have upset the world-view (that phrase again!) they had been putting forward for a millenium and upon which their power was based. Don't forget almost all antique learning and literature was kept by the Church and they guarded it jealously, never revealing it to the secular masses. "The Name of the Rose" demonstrates this beautifully (book, not the film)

I always thought that the first telescope was made by a Dutch dude. Could be the first binoculars(SP?) though
