Sin City eh my friend? I live there, Really I do, so Ill answer any questions you got So now, lets begin.

1.)Has anyone here been to Vegas and had a good time? If so, what are the best things to see/do?

1.) Ok, Well, every day is a good time if you know your way around, the strip has a ton of stuff to see and do, I recommend the pirate show at the Treasure Island, the Lion Exhibit at The Mirage, and the Watershow at the Bellagio, but these are just a few starter ones

2.)Has anyone here been to Vegas and had a bad time? If so, any tips as to what to avoid?

2.) Well, Dont know really, nothing too terrible happened to me, been going well the last 5 years

3.)Has anyone stayed at either The Excalibur or The Flamingo? Anything you can tell me about them?

3.) The Flamingo is a part of Vegas history, besides that it has one of the top 3 pools in las vegas, besides that, the rooms are very nice On the contrary, the excalibur is a bit lacking in its rooms (the flamingo is a bit more expensive aswell) but Excalibur has a King Banquet (or something like that) every few days, you can watch like knights jousting and eat stuff fit for a king (or so they say I hear great things about this show)

4.)I hear that there is a superb "piano bar" in the New York, New York hotel...anybody heard of this?

4.) Yep, its a must-see in vegas..... very high class

5.)How much does a beer cost in vegas? do you normally tip in bars or what?

5.) Depends on where you go, most places theres free drinks for the ladies or free first drink for everyone or free drinks with ticket purchase, or a combination of these, besides that, drinks are quite cheap here, but tip is almost mandatory, unless you get bad service (feel free to elaborate on that, but try to leave a tip most of the time)

6.) Anybody got any photos or tips to share about the place?

6.) I got tons of photos, but heres a few tips, make SURE you stop by Fremont Street (Or the Fremont Street Experience as they call it) and generally around the strip, theres plenty of things to see.... you might also wanna ride that really tall rollercoaster at New York New York, you could also check out The Venetian (in my opinion the best hotel here, its BEST place for newlyweds, very romantic cruise by gondola through venice (or a good recreation of it)

7.) s the Grand Canyon worth the visit? How long does it take to get there from Vegas?

7.) I think it takes 3 or so hours by car, its worth it though

8.) here would be the best place to stage a Stag Night (Bachelor Party) - preferably WITHOUT going downtown?

8.) now THIS i can answer but i need you to tell me in a bit more detail what you have in mind hehhehe

wow! a flurry of replies...thanks guys...ok where to start...

@Taw - got any photos from 17 years ago?! I reckon that would be quite cool to see it as it was....I think I'm right in saying that it was around that time when all of the big corporations moved in? So, I imagine it still had some of its mafia seediness at that point? Or had it already blown into the spectacular fun fair that it is today?

@FF - gun crime?!! did you have to bring it up?!!

@indy - thanks for the tips m8, that was a real nice insight. I'm not a huge gambler myself (probably would be if I could afford it!), we're kinda going to check out the lights and general tackiness of the place...it appeals to my cheesy side

@baked - your parents live there? Its strange really, this is how stereotypical my view was of Vegas, I never saw it as being a place to live! I just imagined it as a massive den of iniquity....

@ff - for the second time, YOU ARE NOT COMING ON MY HONEYMOON!!!

@steel - sorry, same goes for you

@comont - where do I start! you've made my day, really you have. So many questions, can't think of any! Ok, lets start with the Stag night....officially I will have been married the day before, and will have had my main stag night a month previous...so I want it to be cool....but it won't be able to go too far, if you know what I mean. I'm thinking along the lines of plenty of cheap beer, possibly a strip bar (but a less seedy one) and some kind of activity where the boys can feel they got the most out of vegas - eg. is it expensive to have a private game of poker?

thanks for your replies guys...keep em comin!

I recall that it was pretty commercial then, grom, one thing that always stands out is the fact that i could take photos in the middle of the night @125 shutter spd with no flash, and they came out looking like the middle of a bright day. it's bright.

@Grom,

What Comont and Baked have said? ... take in the full sense of their meaning.

It can get pretty expensive to get a private game of poker in one of the big casinos. But some of the less big, the "locals" casinos usually have some free poker rooms you can buy out for a few hours.

Ok, now about the nightlife, I MUST recommend a party tuesdays and fridays at a hotel called The Palms, it has a party called "Skin" happens to be one of the best in vegas, its like a open party area type thing with a huge pool and a lasershow and all kinds of stuff, drinks very cheap there aswell, sometimes free (depending on time or special events)

As for the more strip bars I can list them in two categories, so here goes.

Topless Clubs: Centerfold Lounge (SPECIALIZES in bachelor parties ) then you have Cheetah's, then one of the best in vegas called Jaguars (known for a special Elite Room, admission? 10 grand heh ), and a definite favorite is also "Play It Again, Sam" which has very cheap drinks and buffets and stuff

then theres nude clubs, which you probably dont wanna hear about (lets say most of them are seedy)

and ill just suggest a few also good spots (none-nude places)

Also at the palms hotel (the one with the party) theres a bar all the way at the top called the "Ghost Bar" which offers also open style place, but the catch is that the floor is mostly glass its a helluva a view. In the same hotel theres also a club called "Rain In The Desert" and its quite nice, nothing outstandingly special but nice anyway. And finally theres one of the most popular nightplaces in vegas which is a club called Baby's in the Hard Rock hotel and casino, its very hard to find, its behind a unmarked door down a stairway into the very depths of the ground but it has a HUGE aquarium, cheap drinks, and its always just a lot of fun, PLENTY of people there (its one of the most popular in vegas)

PS: This is the best time of the year to visit (winter) during the days its still very hot but winds can blow in from the surrounding mountains and at night its like a little slice of heaven vegas at night in the winter is the most awesome thing, cool breeze very nice. You dont need sunblock (except maybe at night what with all the lights and all) by the way, dont get caught gambling too much, the house wins 90% of the time (and the loosest slots are usually the ones you pay less for anyway, like 5-10 cents a pop)

Would that be the view from the top or the view looking up the girls skirts from the floor below?

And for a batchlor party in Las Vegas, check out this.
