what are you trying to record ? external to the pc or internal??


edited to add *what do you have attacjed to your line in port on your sound card?
I have one of cheap clip on microphone and if i forget to turn it off my daughter gets to meesin with it and for some reson it always ends up next to the fan on my pc and i wonder why that humming sound is coming out of my speakers

I want to record external sound...(some music file that I cant find for download)
It worked before, I was able to record me speaking and other family members speaking too, that was couple months ago. But now it does not want to work all I get is noise...

have u checked ur multimedia settings? i used to get something similar with having some of the gain controls too high in Volume Control. have u got anything else using the device, both the physical inputs&outputs, and in software too? and
the obvious, check the drivers, i'd go so far as to completely install the latest ones, often sound codecs are altered by games u put on (and of course other apps) the fact that it used to work and now doesn't obv. suggest thats somethings changed, if hardware hasnt changed then its got to be sware, so do ur best to put it back to the way it was. without looking up the specific device and trying it out thats the best i can do, and only u know what software if any uv put on since or what changes uv made

The thing was that in

Sounds and Audio Devices Properties
under Audio-Sound Recording-Volume I had to put a check mark by select for Microphone and that was it
