Name abreviations and the eternal question

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Name abreviations and the eternal question

Been pondering this for some time...

Ok, because we all (aka: most of us) are lazy typists, we abreviate each others names, or make "pet" names that are somehow more pleasant to type. Example:
Arcon = Arc or Archie
FF and ff
Wolf Demon = Wolf, Wolfie, perhaps others
I end usualy as Warlord, Bob, WB, WLB, or in one other forum "you with the stupid name"
One reason for this thread is so we can all share our abreviations, should they be amusing or for posterity, dunno wich.

Anyhoo, here is the eternal question, and one of the main reasons for this thread...

How do we abreviate Sir Spectre?

-Typing the whole thing is out, partialy because this thread is about lazyness
-Sir could be any of us
-Spec sounds too much like spick to me (thats an insult to some if you didn't kno)
-SS makes one think of Hitlers SS
-and for some wierd reason Spectre is unpleasant to type, although the best I've found so far

Why are some names annoying to type? I have no clue. None. But, for some reason, I am bothered by typing "Spectre" but not by for example "Nickless".

I apologize if this offends anybody, and if nobody else has my little quirk, than thank you for your time. But if you do than you know what I mean, and perhaps we can find a good soultion to our mutual quandry!

-------------------------------------
You!
Yes. Me.
.....
Me too!

SS i votes, i dont think of hitler. i think people are just looking too much into stuff.

also, wtf is with Taw and his incessant need to replace "yes" with "y", i keep thinking he's saying "why", im looking for a question every time

"it has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime, what better place than here, what better time than now"

When addressing someone/directing a q to someone, I always type out the whole nick, or at least it's essential part(s). I don't type addons to it, for example, I'd address Nickless as @Nickless, leaving out the "Ver. 2.0 beta". I do tend to shorten peoples' nicknames, I believe that it creates a friendly atmosphere. I expect that should anyone have a problem with this, they'll let me know...

Careful what you wish... You just might get it.

@WB aka WLB aka Warlord aka Bob aka Warlord Bob aka you with the stupid name:

Spec sounds too much like spick to me

I never thought it that way. I never liked being called Spec though because it makes me think of those dinky little race cars, A-spec.

SS makes one think of Hitlers SS

Me too, but I really got confused for a short bit of time when the Starfyre incident was happening because it is Starfyre Studios and they called it SS. I thought they were talking to me at times, but when reading their argument I realised they weren't.

and for some wierd reason Spectre is unpleasant to type

LOL!! I'm fascinated by that emotional foible!

How do we abreviate Sir Spectre?

I'm not quite sure, maybe this will help:

Special Executive for Counterintelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion (SPECTRE)

Organisation:
SPECTRE headquarters have been situated at No. 136 Boulevard Haussmann, Paris, concealed by the appearance of a reputable charity, and later at Piz Gloria in the Swiss Alps.
The members of SPECTRE are known to each other only by their code numbers. The numbers carry no significance other than a secure method of identification, and for added security are advanced two places round the rota each month. All members have a clear police record, even after a life devoted to crime, this being the highest qualification for SPECTRE.

Most of the Special Executive consist of cells of three, each cell consisting of former members of criminal or subversive organisations, from distinct national groups. In addition, there is Blofeld, his right-hand man, and at the time of Plan Omega, two scientists. Originally, the cells were:-
* Sicilians from the Mafia,
* Corsican Frenchmen from the Unione Corse,
* Russians from SMERSH,
* Germans from the Sonderdienst of the Gestapo,
* Yugoslavs from Marshal Tito's Secret Police,
* Highland Turks.

Perhaps SS is closer to the truth .

SS does for me too. it's not like u automatically think "Leibstandarte" or anything, although i suppose for speed u could use an umlaut (sorry i can't remember the ascii character for an umlaut)

@Arch, I know, it's a really bad habit I've got into from txt messaging, I wish I ddin't keep doing it.

u remember my wife works for BT? here are some of the funnier names she's come across recently.. Mrs. Wotabizc, Mrs. Vukabizc, Irma Fatcow, Mr. W.Anchor, R.Sileka, and, in all truth, Mary Christmas. I love that one! She must have a REALLY horrible time in December..

Again, I'm glad my nick is so shorn none have a problem trying to figure out how to abbreviate it.
BTW, IIRC, SS stands for Schutzstaffel, rather than Leibstandarte. Anyway, who cares?

Just remember...if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.
