Anyone heard of X2 The Threat?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Anyone heard of X2 The Threat?

Did anyone hear about this game. I saw the preview of it on gamespy and It seemed to me a great Freelancer like game. I checked out the features: great graphics, trading, factions, ability to land on stations and steal goods and ships and a lot of other freelancer like features. I was getting to say "Good this will be the next game Im putting on my must have list" when I read something that really put me down: You cannot land on planets, saying that your ship is not equipped for atmosferic flight. I mean, in a space sim, the best thing about going around and exploring the universe imho is the ability to land on the planets and do trading or whatever, even if its only like in freelancer. I dont know what you guys think, but any good space sim that is open ended and stuff like a game like this should have this ability. I think the developers should get off thier lazy ass and add this great feature, as in my opinion they said your ship is not enabled for at. flight only to have an excuse to not add something that they thought would be to difficult or time wasting to add. Just my 2 cents on this game.

First of all, Welcome to TLR Schedir

Second of all, this post does not belong in the Freelancer Discussion Forum, so I´ll move it to the Off Topic Forum.

Third, most people have different wishlists for a game and like different features of a certain game. That is just a matter of taste, but unfortunately the game creators cannot satisfy every single wish from every single fan, so you´ll just have to live with the end product as they envisioned it or choose to not buy it. Coming to a site for fans of the Lancers Series (Starlancer, Freelancer) and talking about what features are and aren´t included in another game and what the creators should or shouldn´t do is not the best way to reach them. It kind of defeats the purpose. Go to www.egosoft.com instead and cast your opinion about their game there.

yeah, runs at a crappy 11 frames a secondon my comp, and you want at least 25 frames a second for smooth play

I don't mind the discussion of another game on this site if it introduces space sim fans to another possibility (we can't play Freelancer forever). But that being said, X2 has some really good points and bad points going for it. It's on my must buy list because I enjoyed its previous versions so much.

It has a fantastic trading model and fantastic graphics. But you can't land on planets, it wouldn't surprise me if the story comes across as weak, and the graphics are bringing even top end systems to their knees, so many people might not experience the breath taking visuals of the screenshots.

I wish X managed to incorporate some of Freelancer's interface into it (Freelancer seriously raised the bar in this department in my opinion), and the X games have always had somewhat crappy dogfighting. Hopefully that was rectified. One last thing, X games play slowly. This can often be a deal breaker for some people.

X2 should be a great addition to any space simmer's library. Sometimes the previews make it seem like we're about to behold the ultimate space sim. If you've never played an X game, it may be worth it to check out the demo before buying.

I had a go with the rolling demo a few weeks ago...and it managed to slow down my 2.6Ghz, 1Gb RAM machine to 486 standard....this doesn't bode well for me buying the game.

Shame really because it sounded quite interesting.

I heard that the final game code is more optimized than the non-playable demo. There is supposed to be a playable demo released around the time the game hits the streets. I'd use that to make any final decisions.

Depending on where you are: X2 has had it's european release delayed to
feb. 6th 2004

for other news and more check about the euro release

and about the other things check

the egosoft X2 forums

and a word of warning to the other users of this forum: Don't go on a flaming/spamming tour on that forum
it will at the least be severely punished there and as an effect will cause TLR to have a bad name at the least, show to be better then that
