i've come to the stage where i need nail manicures. as in i need to know how exactly to file my nails for the best acoustic quality - not htat i'm playing with a top notch guitar.. but still.. how the heck do i file my nails? the teach has his nails all fancy. i'm currently filing my nails iwth an industrial grade file used for metals

ah!! Don't use that kind of file. Go to a pharmacy and get a file. It will make your nails stronger if you file them, as opposed to clipping them. And as how to file then, just file them as short as you like, and then stop.

my advice is that if you prefer to play with your fingers, shorten your nails and use your finger tips....it hurts more at first but will give you greater flexibility on the fretboard.

that so didn't help.. thanks for the no-help. i've decided to let my nails grow naturally and then pick up picks if i can.

lol. eh? simple advice kimk...use a file and be artistic, or use your fingers and be a man, the choice is yours

i like both your options.. so i think i'll stick with leaving my P as a finger and the rest as nails. so i'll be an artistic man
