Yes, its a really safe and easy to learn hobby. For those of you who haven't tried it pick up a starter kit at your local hobby store. It should contain 1-3 easy rocket kits and all the supplys for a few launches! Great fun
The Estes kits are quite fun, but you can get really specialized if you make your own! Buying the pieces can be a bit expensive, unless you aren't particular about what you get. The "designers special" ($50) has random parts for up to 8 rockets, so they say.
I have built a flying pyramid, and two estes style things of my own design, but now i'm working on somthing you won't find the equal of anywhere. I am quite proud of myself for designing it
