Model Rocketry

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Model Rocketry

With this bunch i'm shure a few of you have been or are model rocket enthusiasts. I'm re-discovering an old hobby today

I did some modle rockets when I was at a winter camp with the Scouts, but aside from that, never done it.

I built a whole bunch of model rockets when I was a teenager. It can be an expensive hobby (when your only source of income is mowing lawns) because it's really easy to lose the rocket. I shot rockets off all the time when I lived in Boise, but then I moved to Eastern Washington where it's a lot more windy and I was too chicken to launch any there. I didn't have any friends who liked rockets so I didn't build any more. My best one is a Phoenix Missile, but I've never launched it.

Model rocketry is completely safe if you follow the Model Rocket Code. And in any case you wouldn't be able to blow yourself up unless you were making your own engines.

One thing I learned the hard way when I was twelve. Don't use hot-glue to put together model rockets. Sure, you can build one really fast that way, but the heat from motor will melt the glue and you can lose your fins or nose cone. This happened to me. My rocket went up and when it deployed the parachute the nose cone and the parachute floated into some neighborhood, and the rest of the rocket fell like a stone, but it's pretty useless without a nose cone.

Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!

Yes, its a really safe and easy to learn hobby. For those of you who haven't tried it pick up a starter kit at your local hobby store. It should contain 1-3 easy rocket kits and all the supplys for a few launches! Great fun

The Estes kits are quite fun, but you can get really specialized if you make your own! Buying the pieces can be a bit expensive, unless you aren't particular about what you get. The "designers special" ($50) has random parts for up to 8 rockets, so they say.

I have built a flying pyramid, and two estes style things of my own design, but now i'm working on somthing you won't find the equal of anywhere. I am quite proud of myself for designing it ...

BT 80
around 2.5 feet
Engine configurations ranging from single stage "A" to 2 stage "E"
Max Altitude (guess) +or- 1500 ft
'Chute, Double streamer recovery, rear deployed, or nothing
Possible payload is anything that can fit in 3 inches of "D" engine size tubing
If necessary can stand to hit the ground (unloaded) at terminal velocity....
...if it lands in dirt (concrete is a no-no, it's happened before) and god loves me

Wish me luck, i've invested $60 so far

Taw why do I get the feeling that one day we are going to wake up and see your face plastered all over the news concerning something about a large explosion and hundreds killed.

"this just in, a man and his 'boy' have opened fire in stoke town center. the two are holed up now at the top of some church or other calling for more episodes of 'the league of gentlemen' to be made.
The man has yet to positively identified but a woman claiming to be his wife has refreained from being interviewed, only being overhead saying "not again peter""

OMG, i do that as well. someone comes into my room and asks me something like "can i borrow your bike?" or "can my mate borrow your godfather trillogy boxset?" and i'll just mumble something so i can get him to leave and go back to sleep. i'll wake up an hour or two and all my worldly posetions are gone and i have no recolection of where they went.

an intresting one was my mum woke me up rather grumpily saying "your breakfast has gone cold now, i had to throw it away". turns out in my sleep she came in and asked me if i wanted a full english, i gladly accepted, she cooked it, i slept, she threw it away. i get worried now though, cause i'm not allowed to swear around my parents so its a little game of self control i play, but asleep i dont know WHATS going on and in normal conversation its not odd that i might throw a fer cuss words in just cause i havent heard that word for a few seconds. I'm brick scared of telling someone to **** off when i'm asleep cause they woke me up.

OT: I hereby officially lift the restraining order that once exists between Arc and Taw! oh wait, you've been violating it since yesterday :p in fact, I don't think you ever bothered to obey it

The rest of you carry on with your V3 experiments back on topic!

@Mustang:

Taw why do I get the feeling that one day we are going to wake up and see your face plastered all over the news concerning something about a large explosion and hundreds killed.

That wouldn't be Taw. That would be me!

My goodness Taw! You really got into this stuff! As I lack a large amount of money i'm building as serious of a rocket as I can out of cardboard Getting into aluminum and high power engines would be neat though.

In my dreams i sometimes respond to somthing somone said in the dream out loud, and thus wake myself up. I always wonder what somone standing near by would have thought of "I don't think so, but that one looks good"
