sadly, the miracle probe that was actually made to survive just 2 years lived for 14 years..... and contributed to astronomy so much.... and gawd.. it went to give the breakthru data about jovian planets by sarcrificing itself to the jupitarian atmosphere.....

without further ado, we honour galileo

i still feel so sad. anyways, everything's gotta die right.

i agree with nickless, they'll build another one so who cares, unless of course the new one finds alien life on one of either saturn or jupiters moons then i'll care

They make it sound all sad. Its just a probe! What I wana kno is whats so bad about a europa crash? I would understand if the life there was sentient but what are the odds?

maybe if the probe had crashed onto Europa the proto-alien slime creatures might have eventually found a way to use it for something. maybe it was the spur they needed for their evolution, and we've deprived them of it, and now they'll stay ooze things.

I agree with you guys, I don't understand how you can get emotional over machinery. It's like if you were planning to upgrade your PC in 2 years but had to wait 14, Im pretty sure most of us would gladly watch said 14 year old PC burn up in Jupiters Atmosphere.

i wore black for an entire week and stuck a slate slab thing in my back yard saying : Here lies galileo

and heck i wore red to my grandma's funeral.

as for us gladly watching 14yr old PC burn up in jupiter's atmosphere.. i get quite attached to stuff that helped me. not that galileo's helped me in any way.. but it helped science lots.

and LOL taw.
