guitar question

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

guitar question

how long should i leave my nails? because i'm going back to school and they get picky about long nails. its only my p,m,a,i that i need to leave on my right hand right? the rest cut? how long should i leave it at to avoid messing up on songs and yet get past school hassles? (personally i can't be assed if my nails are 2 ft long.)

i used to grow the nails on my right hand, but when I was at school I had the same problem as you, so I learnt to play with my right finger tips instead. I now find this method much easier anyway...so I don't know what anyone else will say, but as far as I'm concerned you can cut them, it doesn't matter.

Why not use those ´chip´ things which are developed so you don´t mess up your fingers or nails anymore ? I don´t know what those things are called though, but that seems a better solution.

thanks. but the chip things.. you can't play too fast.. and i can't play fast to start with, let alone having to grip that and twang the right string.

I find playing with a pick the most natural thing but if I have to use my fingers, i'll use my finger tips. I did try playing with my finger nails at one stage (when I was trying to learn flamenco) but found them way too uncomfortable to use.

chip thing - plectrum?

I used to have a thumb plectrum (slips onto your thumb like a ring with a plectrum attached to it)....that sort of thing might help. but ultimately, i think finger tips are the best for precision and speed.

the chip "things" are plectrums

Plectrum is the proper name, but most people call them pick's.

piece of an old credit card is what I've used for years

I also used to use a bud bottle as a slide (ever since seeing the hooker adverts years ago), but then one day the bottle shattered during a mad slide solo and I ended up with a 3 inch piece of glass sticking out of my wrist - wouldn't advise it

hey.. a bit of card? that just might be a more.. customized approach to your instrument.. thanks.

yeah, i've always played guitar with a pick/pletcrum. if you ever want to develop any speed or precision, i suggest you start practicing with one.

though there are many guitarists who play with their fingers, it totally depends on what kind of music you want to play.
and as for playing with fingers, i've never used my nails (unless i just couldn't find a pick and wanted to use one)...i always use my finger tips, in which case its good to keep your nails nice and short

as for your left (fretting) hand, i like to keep em' nice and short too

Kyp

The other day, in study hall, i farted really loud, you know...so the guys would laugh...and i swear it was so hanus that Susie Johnson almost ralphed up her salsbury steak.
