This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Something about Football (soccer for the USA)

Right now Wednesday the 10th of Sept. at 21.05 it's halftime and Holland is getting his @ss kicked by the Czechs. It's 2-0 for them
After 10 minutes Davids (some Dutch player who gets paid waaaay to much, like most of them) gets send off to the showers for taking down Medved (A Czech who probably gets paid just about 10% if he's lucky, but is certainly worth every penny) in front of the goal.
They get a penalty ofcourse: 1-0
About 20 minutes later, the Dutchies screw up again: 2-0

Aargh!!!

I'm not a huge fan of football, but I like to watch it every now and then.
Seeing those overrated, overpayed hotshots shuffeling aross the field, still wondering how it's possible they missed the World Championship in Korea/Japan, makes me sick.

Anyway, thiss should have been the decisive duel. The Czechs are first in the group, with an even point-score, but with a better score-balance than the Dutchies. So winning means the lead in the group and an almost certain pass throught to the European Championship in Portugal.
Oh well, second half just started, I fear the worst

Are you watching?

I'm going to Italy for 2 weeks this friday and hopefully there'll be some games to go and see, Serie A has started now hasn't it?

YEah, if it's not delayed like last year.

Final score: 3-1 for the Czechs

shame that i always have a soft spot for Holland from the old days. still the Czechs are tough and v good and even when they lose the winners know theyve been in a fight. I have always respected those eastern european teams esp. the old USSR team, Romania and Bulgaria, they play good hard physical footie not all this prancing bout like girls. I met Shtoikov once and he's a big bloke, very intimidating, like Hagi. ok neither of them play anymore i'm going back about 10yrs but thats the sort of footballers u get in E.europe!

It's pathetic. I don't know if anyone here knows anything about the Dutch national team but there are some changes whihc MUST be made. They have to ditch Reiziger and Kluivert. Those two are playing like a bunch of dog poop the last few interlands. Then the coach substitues Van Nistelrooij (who played much better than Kluivert)

I think I'm going to be a supporter of an other national team.

Go Czech Republic! Go for the European title Nedved & co!!

i haven't seen the match, i'm on site doing w2k/xppro installs until midnight, but i'm not surprised, Kluivert has been rubbish for yonks and i don't know why he's still in the side. reading the report now on BBC sport.

England 2 Leichtenstein 0 everyone at work 2moro will be crowing how brilliant England are, yeh right we beat Leichtenstein by 2 goals, like wow. England aren't that good, everyone raves about Beckham but he just seems like another Stuart Pearce to me, set-piece freekicker, i think he's going to struggle away from Man U.

Although I follow England's fortunes, my allegiance is to Italy because thats where my family are from (and they play better footie mostly!)

I remember Stoikov, He played for FC Barçalona together with Koeman. He was a very good player, they both were.
Koeman is managing Ajax now, I have no Id where Stoikov is.

Also, what about Seedorf, the fact that he's the onlyone who has one the Championsleague with three different clubs, doesn't matter. I have seen last years final (yes Taw, All Italian, they own the European football at the moment ) and Seedorf MISSED a penalty in the final shoot-out! Yes, they won, but no thanks to Seedorf, he sucks big time.
Missing Penalties is typical Dutch ability I guess.
Personally I wouldn't mind if they missed the EU championship next year, they don't deserve it IMHO

England miss enough critical penalties too Nick! usually really critical crunch time shoot out ones!

yeah i know and it wasnt brilliant from all accounts, we struggled against Macedonia, could have done a lot better against L'stein, and next we've got Turkey who will prob. kick the living sh*t out of us, on and off the field.

All we need from the Turkey match is a Draw

i tell u i think we will struggle to get that based on performance so far.

All we need is for Turkey to slip up a little

If you're depending on the opponent to slip up, you basicaly lost already. Unless ofcoarse they actually slip up.
It's better to rely on your own capabilities, than on the un-capabitities of the opponent.

The same goes for the ref btw. When a game is lost, everyone will say, the referee made a bad disicion that caused us to loose the game. In fact, this is very rarely the case.
Most of the time, if you depend on the ref, or the opponent to win a match, you already lost.
I think, without that bad call you would have lost anyway.
Blaming it on the ref, means you lack the capability and some serious spine to be a winner or a fair looser.

Too bad this counts for the Dutch national team too often.
Last few championships, both Europe and World, the Dutchies made it to the tournament because the opponent slipped up. Two years ago, their luck ran out.
I'm glad it did, now everyone is aware of the fact that the Dutch team isn't all that great as it was in '88 or '74 and '78.

u r absolutely right Nickless! I've said this for years, relying on ur opponent to make a mistake is losing the game b4 its even started. u see this every week with UK teams trying to avoid losing rather than going out to win, needless to say these are the teams that always hover around the relegation zone towards the back end of the season (like the rubbish team i support) but u see it amongst the premiership and internationals as well, it is a classic England attitude and u get it from pundits too. really winds me up.
