As I've mentioned before, I recently bought the newest version of Battlecruiser; and while it is, as I've said, a quite unique concept in a game, it's also still quite defective. The original game, "Battlecruiser 3000 AD" was, without question, the single most defective piece of software ever released. The latest version (fourth, I think), "Battlecruiser MIllennium Gold", though having years more work put into it over the original version, still has many, many glaring glitches, as well as a lot of "Doh!" factor, i.e., obvious way to do things easier that its designer , Derek "Smart" (and I use that name with serious doubt as to its accuracy), could have and should have seen ways to improve. The learning curve is DAUNTING, the tutorials are useless, it's incredibly technical, and, while technical support is available, I would seriously, seriously advise anyone not to seek it - you'll likely end up talking to Derek Smart, and that's something no civilized human should be subjected to.
WHen I went to the battlecruiser forum, after going through a nazi-like interrogation proceedure that they like to think of as "registration", which involved prying a vast myriad of personal, yet irrelevant data, and only stopped short of a rectal exam, I finally managed to get access to the board to ask my quiestions, i.e. why the hell is this thing screwing up. Much to my regret, my question was answered by Derek Smart himself, a man whose ego has a gravity field so strong that it makes a black hole look like a suction cup. He is arguably the most arrogant human being I've ever had the displeasure to have to deal with, and his social skills make Hitler look like a diplomat. He's a tyrant, runs his forum in a remarkably unforgiving pompus, and intolerant manner, yet has remarkably poor manners himself, is concieted, childish, insecure, and completely incapable of coping with criticism. He banned me because I said that I don't like him, after he'd been rude to me yet again.
The moral of the story: While I strongly, stongly advise against EVER even considering to purchase a product released by 3000AD or anything else with Derek Smart's name plastered all over it in a vainglorious fashion, all I can say is that if you are fooled into buying such a product, don't even think about contacting them unless you're prepared to like Derek Smart.
He'll ban you if you don't.
