Should I...

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Should I...

buy cordless headphones? I haven't really researched brands and prices yet. I'm only at the toying-with-the-idea phase at the moment.

Pros: well my only intention is to listen to music while being in the loo
Cons: more expensive, needs constant battery charge, heavy, and degradation of sound quality. Oh, and my roommates might yell at me if I get too comfy in the toilet.

I want your opinions

yes do definitely get them. no more wires and no one shouts at you to turn music/game sounds off, worth every penny. the only prob is if someone actually wants you you can't hear them (aw that just too bad)

I have a set of Sennheisers which set me back a bit but theyre for hi-fi more than gaming, but theres plenty available for the 40 buns mark that are quite good enough for both. I even think Microsoft do a good set.

I have 2 sets of Sennheiser HDR 85s, they are very nice, I keep one base hooked up to my TV and the other base hooked up to my computer, ans both sets of headphones can receive signals from either base. The bases transmit on 3 different frequencies too, so there are no problems with hearing a TV program my dad is watching while I try to play Freelancer. I think the batteries last for about 4 hours after a charge, and I don't think you'll lose enough sound quality to notice.
Its also much easier to ignore people when you have headphones on.

I'm already using a pair of cheap Philips headphones, and they do a very decent jobs for their price. But I can't be more than 2 metres away from the pc, with the cable restricting me.

And I'm quite convinced that headphones are way better than speakers, been saying so for a long time. Once you're used to having the source right by your ears you'll never go back to speakers.

I got sh*tty ones (Philips btw), the batteries run out every 4 hours or so, and recharging them take at least 24 hours

I wouldn't. I would spend the money to get those nice 5.1 headphones

Cant remember the name, but evedently they sound awsome.

If you are going to get wireless headphones, get ones that opperate on a radio frequency because with the Infa-red type... You need line of sight. And it can't penetrate anything, even if you are still in range. I have a pair.

yip go for it there good but listen to some classical music on them first as its best for discerning sound quality with (especially violins)
buy waterproof ones just in case though (yuk!)

If you're gonna do it, save up a little more and go for the dogs b*ll*cks...Sennheiser or Bose....I used to use the cord versions when I was sound engineering and they had gorgeous tone. I checked out the spec on their latest cordless and they've got exactly the same frequency range. You'll probably find that most high-spec cordless are as good as most medium-high-spec corded nowadays.

2 tips when buying headphones though:

1. Try them on. Don't buy blind (ie on the net) until you've at least tried a pair. make sure they're comfortable because after an hour's worth of use you'll regret it in the future (I have actually had blisters on and behind my ears from using cheap headphones at gigs - and it bl**dy hurts!!)

2. Listen to what you can't hear. The more sound they block out, the more effective they will be. Apparently Bose now produce a pair that block out 95% of surrounding noise before you even turn the music on! There's no point choosing a high spec headphone if you can still hear background noise - its like spending £2K on a pair of speakers only to have your wife or your mum pacing up and down in front of them playing a trumpet.

I guess it kinda depends on your budget - but if I were you, I'd wait a little longer and save up for the daddy's.

Damn... I was hoping for a more "serious" question... If you know what I mean.
Anyway, cordless headphones? They are some 15-50% more expensive than their corded alternatives, so I suggest you invest those 15-50% in better sound quality...

Careful what you wish... You might just get it.
