X2 rolling demo released

In case any of you guys are interested the rolling demo of X2 The Threat has been released. Well worth a look if you like space sims, although it is different style to FL.

Yup its looking good. Its also got built in benchmarking so you can see what kind of performance you get compared to others.

looks quite nice:
Overall average framerate: 39.652 fps

theres a fair few star wars rip-offs in that game, but it looks alot better than X1
definately worth a purchase

While great graphics are a nice touch, I'm seriously hoping that the gameplay is everything that Xt was but done properly! The ability to write your own AI scripts and being about to own Cap ships are far more interesting that the actual look of the game IMHO.

Looks awesome with full AA and shadowing switched on, though it's a serious hardware strainer in some of the busier scenes. I hope the gameplay can match the visuals.

that video was damn impressive especially the part at the end in the space suit, that was frieky

bad, tv runs at 25 frames, you should be aiming for nothing less than that

Did you try turning off the various effects, shadows is the real killer. Also try running the demo without the benchmarking turned on as it will run smoother.

And the "think" part of the demo is because you really have to think about where and what to trade if you want to make a profit. If you want to build factories then you need to find the best place for them. The previous game (Xtension) requireed that much thought was put into your empire if you wanted to make profits.

My beast is a p4 2.6c 800FSB, 128Mb FX5900 & 512Mb PC3200 RAM and I can only crank 46 fps average out of it and the lowest I got down to was 8fps. I'm hoping that they don't have to many busy scenes in the final version, cause your going to need a real workhorse to get the best out of it.

Mustang what resolution did you get 8fps in? I'm presuming that was in very high res with all the options (including shadows) turned on. If you want to compare the fps averages have a look on the X2 forum and there is a thread where people have posted their results (including systems spec most of the time).

the thing that kills the frames the most is that ?underwater? planet, the one with all the streams of light
