There is no doubt that some will survive, but what little evidence there is for the actual effects of an "ELE" event based on previous episodes, suggest that massive climate change is inevitable. One event which has been studied is the last eruption of the Yellowstone super volcano ( approx 600,000 years ago ). Mitochondrial DNA studies have suggested that at that time the population of our ancestors was reduced to just a few hundred indivduals. What reduced the population so drastically is very likely to have been starvation.
The Mad Max type scenario is very unlikely to happen because most of us are more than likely going to die of starvation within a few months of the event happening. What is the current world reserve of food? How are we going to replace it when the climate is so bad that nothing can grow. How many of us can actually farm anyway? There would be total panic, order would break down rapidly, fuel would disappear within weeks. I can't remember who, and I think I've got the quote right, but it is something like " our civilisation is just three meals from anarchy"
I really don't think the bunker solution would work anyway. When are we going to start building it? Now? When we know a meteor is on its way? To make a bunker to hold that many people and make it totally self sufficient would take years of planning, even longer to build and I seriously doubt we could co-operate long enough to actually do it.
As I said in my earlier post, I would get as close to the impact point as I could and take the quick easy way out. Starvation is not a nice way to die!
