Deep Impact scenario (not movie discussion)

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Deep Impact scenario (not movie discussion)

Earth about to snog with a planet-killer meteorite. Shooting nukes at it is useless. Your government announced that it has secretly built bunkers strong enough to survive the impact and its aftermath, capacity: 1 million citizens. 200000 of the most important preselected (Bill Gates and Bargib will be among them, no doubt ), 800000 will be randomly selected. What do you think about this kind of arrangement? would you like to be in those bunkers, or risk living outside and have the opportunity to live Mad Max style? Discuss.

i would be in the bunkers...its already been aranged.

thing is, if you could survive on the surface...why would you wanna go in the bunkers, infact what would be the point?

thining about it, there arent that many post-apocalyptic computer games are there? now THERES an idea

Hmm...Sounds like a Fallout-esque scenario. If I were assured of surviving the initial impact I wouldn't terribly mind seeing the aftermath. I assume that the people inside the bunkers would stay down there until such a time is determined that it would be 'safe' to return to the outside world? It would be very interesting to see how civilization would cope with such devastation. However, seeing as how it would be pure hell for the first several decades, it would be interesting only in a historical context...as a person living through it, I doubt that they would consider it interesting and would probably throw their bodies at the Vault doors trying to get in. So, give me my friggin' ticket into Vault 15! (For those who've played Fallout 1 and 2 you might take notice that I picked Vault 15 on purpose). Cheers.

Bring it on, I say. I'd be on the surface with a bottle of Dimple and (given the fact that im probably going to die, i'd take up smoking again) a carton of Rothmans Internationals. And of course a fine (but very dumb) woman, to whom i'd tell that I have a bunker that's made with invisible walls and if she gives me a head scratch (and some other things), i'll let her in. Nicely played, if I do say so myself.

i hadn't really thought about surviving so If I did, I guess I'd proclaim myself President of Earth and run naked through the middle of the town.

@Arcon: let's just say the chance of survival outside is dim, but does exist. Bunker life = policed, regulated, secure. Outside life: might die, but completely free and lawless. Take your pick.

@Mustang: president of the Earth, at least until the pre-select's army came out of the bunker and dethrone you once the surface is habitable again .

I'd stand on a beach where the tidal wave is going to hit and then set the world record for surfing
Before that I guess I'd ask a really nice woman for a night of fun and laughter, after all if your gonna die, you might as well smile

I'd stay outside. I'd be happy, 'cause I'm soon to find out what comes after life... I'd drink my favourite drink, maybe find some deserted, undefiled tech store, plug in the PS2 and play Gran Turismo 3... And have some nice girl help me with my, errr, joystick...
I mean, if I'm meant to die, I'll somehow die in a bunker too, even if I hide. That is, if noone cares enough about silly ol' me...
BTW, FF, how come you're interestred in what people would do in that kind of situation? Maybe you know something we don't know?

edit: Spelling.
edit #2: No not Tori Spelling, spelling check & corrections.

Careful what you wish... You might just get it.

Exit Mundi - Comets <-------

I'd wanna stand right at the spot where its projected to hit. Id moon the comet/asteroid/meteor while it came down on my arse.

Why do most people choose to die outside? interesting.

i'd just go and hang out wif frens, talk, joke about how life's gonna end, then say 'bye!' when we hear screams outdoors, and kiss each other and go back to drinking soda or doign whatever we were doing 2 mins before.

EDIT: oh and i thought i'd add that deep impact IMO is far better than armageddon.

I'd be outside. I would A: Steal a car I've always wanted, B: Fill the car with things stolen from my local liqueur store, C: Find any of my friends who were still outside and D: Party. If I survived, then I would figure out what to do later.
Live for the moment, especially if it's all you might have.

Any meteorite big enough to wipe out life on earth would also wipe out all life in the bunkers if it hit the right spot. The government would have to be pretty sure it built them in the right place!! But assuming they did and they survived the impact, I do not think they would be very easy places to live in. Most info I've seen about the impact scenario is that climatic effects could last for several years and then take a long time to return to normal. How much food would you have to store to feed that many people for several years? Could you actually store enough? Would you eventually starve to death underground or die fighting for what little food remained.

If a real biggy is on the way, book a seat nearby and party until the b*gg*r hits!

Well if they plan it right, with UV lamps hydroponics, and self-supporting farm, etc etc they can have infinite supply of food.

Post Wed Jul 23, 2003 7:30 pm

Yeah, but does that level of planning sound like any of the governments of today that we all know and love?

Personally id go for the bunkers. Outside yes youd get to live lawless, but that wont be all fun and games. Besides (in theory anyway), when you come out of the bunkers you would have essentially a whole new world to build, and with fewer people around that means you have a better chance of your ideas being heard and acted on. Go figure the rest!
