I''ve had enough!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I''ve had enough!

/start rant

My new mobo, P4 2.6c and 3200 DDRam finally arrived. Unfortunately windows decided to throw a wobbly at the new motherboard so a re-install was the name of the game. No big deal, bowled that over in a quarter the time it took to install all the new hardware and figure out the intricacies of the new case I bought (Lian Li alliminium cases are exceptionally sexy btw)

Anyway, to cut a long story short, 1 hr into my new build and 15 minutes onto the internet and I've already picked up a copy of Gator, once again without me realising it. Im so friggin sick of GMT.exe popping up in my task list every half an hour. It seems like thier bloody program is embedded into every site on the net. Now is it just me or is what they're doing illegal?

/end rant

I know exactly what you mean Mustang ! Every frickin time I visit a site (whatever it may be) and there it is....A GODDAMN GATOR POP-UP !!!

Apparently there are mutiple lawsuits going on against Gator. Check this out for more info ! The Gator Corporation needs a serious smackdown if you ask me...

EDIT: BTW Mustang, you can use programs like Spybot to get rid of these things (like gmt.exe )

Ad Aware should be your next best proggy friend. Problem will be solved with regular usage.

Sting does this program just cover ad-ware or is it all that crap like spyware and stuff? Also is it free?

Post Tue Jul 15, 2003 12:40 am

right from the manual...

What is Ad-aware?
Ad-aware is THE award winning, multi-trackware detection and removal utility (designed for Windows 98 / 98SE / ME / NT40 / 2000 / XP Home / XP Pro) that will comprehensively scan your memory, registry, hard, removable and optical drives for known Datamining, aggressive advertising, Parasites, Scumware, Keyloggers, selected traditional Trojans, Dialers, Malware, Browser hijackers, and tracking components.

Ad-aware will provide you with the confidence to surf the Internet knowing that your privacy will remain intact.

I have VERY few proggy's I consider essential to keeping my baby humming like the well oiled machine it is. Norton Corporate Anti-Virus, Pop-Up Stopper www.panicware.com, Zone Alarm Firewall www.grc.com, Sandra SiSoft Utilities, Trillian www.ceruleanstudios.com (all encompassing chat program that uses minimal resources), and Ad Aware. Years of experience speaking here.

hey, thats funny. I use almost all the same progs. Ok, so I use McAfee.
ZoneAlarm, Trillian, Ad-Aware and the bunch.

Have to look up that pop up stopper, though.

Actually I just noticed that my Intel Motherboard came with some free software, one of them being Nortons Internet Security 2003.
I'd have to say it's a pretty snazzy piece of security software, it's got Anti Virus, Firewalling, Intrusion Detection, Privacy Control, Ad blocking and Spam alerts. Not bad for a freebie.

it popped up a couple times on my comp as well.. but its stopped now.

Probably because Gator doesn´t find you worthy enough to annoy

I think im gona download it, looks really helpful. Besides Im kinda unerved cause my friend told me he found a TON of spyware on his computer, and I have never despyed mine
_______________
ok I downloaded it and found 44 data miner programs, which sounds pretty low compared to my friend who found something like 200 on his computer

Is it possible to do something about that?
