Why do you Pick on Bill Gates?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

oh you think maybe i owe him a debt of gratitude...here take my business take my home, i mean for chrsts sake its not like your not already trying with those prices. Dont get on at me cause i'm using XP, i'm using IE, if it wasnt for him dont think we'd all be pushing sticks up our noses, you can rest assured that someone else will come along and do the job, dont act like hes been sent from the stars to bless all computers with his unbeleivebly advanced software.

and as for capitalist. well thats the goddamn bane of the modern world isnt it, americans and their capitalism, afraid of not having enough money, house too small, not enough boats, everyone needs cars, SUV's use more petrol for the mile so we'll drive them, heaven forbid we'll have high prices for petrol though. petrol gets used up at an alarming rate, americans run out, get scared so invade som other countries with the oil so fat cats can ballance their credit cards and cheque books. The richest country in the world and yet microsoft, who's CEO is on the way to becoming the worlds first trillionaire, needs to charge SO MUCH for a programming SDK. more than a hundred pounds for something that doesnt physically exist.

you can admire the man for making good business decisions, but i dont. business sense isnt what i look for when picking role models and friends. Bill Gates is a dick.

So basically, you're mad that Bill Gates can afford stuff and prices stuff high and that you're too poor to afford it?

You guys should watch the movie ´Pirates of Sillicon Valley´ Anyone ever saw that movie ? It´s about Bill Gates and Steve Jobs (creator of Apple Computer) in their early years. Very nice movie if you want to know more about these two people and their companies.

I can only say that I admire Bill for his stamina, creativity and genius. I simply don´t understand why some people hate him so much.

Arcon, I, living in the same state as our friend BG, haven't seen one cent drop in oil prices. I doubt Americans are buying significantly more oil now than they have in any summer we haven't fought a war in. So it seems unlikely that American citizens AND oil execs both benefit from Iraqi oil. A bette explanation for the war, IMO, is that sooner or later we would have had to get involved for some reason, and it was better to do it now, BEFORE (yes, that's what I said) Saddam got big, bad, weaps than afterward. I don't agree with this, but it is much easier for me to believe than the oil theory. Don't people realise that Americans have other things to worry about than oil? Like innercity schools or the latest Reality TV show?

But I do agree BG is a bastard. For 1) gobbling up my favorite game manufacturers. 2) Making it Damn Hard to use the web browser of my choice, by which I mean not having web browsers I don't like or want on my computer. 3) By using his dominating market share to leverage 1 and 2. Capitalism is about having a choice where to spend time and resources. I'm supposed to spend money on items (real or IP, doesn't matter) that I decide best fill my needs. IE doesn't, at least the way its implemented in XP. My system memory is much freer with Netscape, I can do more with Netscape, Netscape has been more stable. But I still have to have IE on my machine because Bill Gates says so.

Post Mon Jul 07, 2003 9:34 am

so why not just delete IE ?

Post Mon Jul 07, 2003 9:48 am

Then buy Netscape and install it. What is so hard about that?

Don't tell me you don't like the fact that IE comes installed in your pc at no extra cost.

Post Mon Jul 07, 2003 4:37 pm

The fact is I can't uninstall it. If I "uninstall it" from the add/remove panel, it removes the bloody SHORTCUTS! I seem to remember a court order that was supposed to make it possible to remove IE from my machine, but apparently Bill has decided court orders don't really matter. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get that thing off my machine, and the closest I've come is making a dual boot xp/2000 system and deleting every file that has any association with IE. I don't suppose anyone out there knows a more pratical way to do this?

What I find interesting is this: If Bill Gates hadn't made his money on computer stuff, most of the people who complain about him would not even care who he was. He has just become a convenient target for computer people to caomplain about, if it wasn't him and Microsoft, they would be complaining about someone else and some other company.

Post Mon Jul 07, 2003 5:31 pm

thing is, alot of webpages arent supported on Netscape now.

anyway, cynicism, for a name like that, your awfully naieve (sp?) about the war, but due to politics restriction, i wont be going into that. Giving money away to charity or school systems doesnt justify the means.

Arcon, I've only encountered one website that didn't work properly with Netscape, so it's really not an issue if websites I don't use aren't configured for it. As for being nieve about the war, did you know that the US gets most of its imported oil from South America? If we were going to war for oil we would have sent troops to Venisuela to stop those oil strikes. Europe gets its oil from the middle east.

Post Tue Jul 08, 2003 11:59 am

Europe does, england however gets most of its oil from the north sea, as far as i care, Europe can go F*ck itself, england should never have become part of europe

Post Tue Jul 08, 2003 12:15 pm

Netscape have fallen behind with thier product, no-one could really be bothered going to great lengths to get Netscape when IE is providing exactly the same service at no additional time or cost to the consumer.

and just on the oil issue, I'd like to remind all the it cost the US govt. approx $107 billion to invade iraq which means they would have to pump approx 3,566,000,000 barrels of oil (at $30 a barrel) out of iraq absolutley exempt of any overheads or charges just to break even. Food for thought for conspiriacy theorists.

Post Tue Jul 08, 2003 12:31 pm

@mustang "Iraq possesses the world’s second largest proven oil reserves, currently estimated at 112.5 billion barrels"

thats 112 500 000 000, that would give the US (at $30 a barrel) $2 970 000 000 000 profit.
