TLR´s position

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

It's really a shame that some of the "oldies" have left. I havn't seen MS here since my return and I'm still searching for Boscoe. Not to mention Mad Dog.

I was just sitting here contemplating what happened when I came to insight:

Freelancer happened.

For, as Archie said, when Freelancer at last reched us we lost the edge on what made us "lancers". Loving a game that is isn't really that hard. Loving a game that's two years overdue which holds some crackpot "no-joystick"-function is accuardly a full time job. So here, to TLR, we all came. Each bringing our souls, our hearts and our stories. We exchanged them and sat around the digital bonfire, passed around the computerized jug of liquid and just lived. When the object of our anticipation was here we all stood up and continued with our beings. Some left, some took a nap and some stayed, standing like the statues of the Argonath (yes, I am a LotR geek), watching over the crowd of new folk that started to appear.

We can't turn back time, we can't "un-do" Freelancer, the only thing we can wait for is, like someone has already said, for the storm to blow over and the next lancergame enters the scetchboard. Then we'll have another four years of cursing Microsoft, another glorious half decennium of talking about Boscoes kids, another happy era of Zert trying to cross the border, MD and tach trying to beat each other's posts, me and Archie making peace and the return of Stinger as we know him.

I have a dream.
Let's hope it comes true.

I can help you on two accounts there:
Mad-Dog is often in chat, but I don't think I've seen him post since I joined (Feb this year)
Zeratural is currently MIA. He said he was leaving for a holiday in the US of A and the next message we get is from "zeruturals_bro" saying he's run away and disappeared. It sounded pretty dubious but who knows

Meh I can't believe I read all that, but that is what you get for being away for two weeks. On Topic: I agree with Tach/Arcon, this forum (even back in January) used to be a small community that was highly moderated and pretty much devoid of spammers and trolls except for the occaisional X2 moron, or joystick fanatic (I now laugh to think when those were the only problems we faced). I remember when I used to read every new thread that was posted, and made like 10 replys each day. Now I am lucky if I get one in, and I only post in the OT forum, owing to the insanity of the FL forum. But heck what is, is and what was, is no more, so we have to deal with these new events. Here is the key "Life is in the FUTURE not in the past." I agree with what certain people have said about being proactive, and stop whining about what was. I think that an essential goal would be to get the FL forum back into shape it really needs the digital smackdown laid on it, the OT forum just needs to be de-spammed a little but that is not really the problem, this is a FL forum and with the FL sections being so cluttered its hard for those of us who want to talk about FL to actually do so. On the issue of the private forum for regulars, it might be a good idea, I would like to know what Gibby thinks about it. However I think the FL forum really needs to be cleaned up so our goal of providing a real FL discussion can be regained. I personally intend to start reading in there again to maybe add a little sanity back into that forum, it might be as effective as pissing into the wind but, hell, its worth a try. Maybe if more of the old guys and the intelligent new ones post in the FL forums people will fall into place (a sort of lead by example thing). Whatever the method I feel that this community can and will perservear untill FL 2. GAH, glad to get that off my back, hope my point(s) were understood if I actually had any...

i dont know whether or not the wait for the next lancer is going to solve it. Starlancer was and always will be one of the best space shooters ever. Thing is, not everyone here thinks so, at least not those who join us in the 'free' iteration of the lancer series. now heres the catch, starlancer, despite out love, wasnt that successful, so the comminity was so close knit, were almost like family. like a fan club for an unapreciated movie/tvseries, the hardcore fans banded together at only a handful of sites and sat out the long, long wait for freelancer.
The thing is, with freelancer being far bigger and more succesful (from what i can tell), the community still continues to grow. the small time identity of the lancer community that kept us so close was lost. the most annoying thing in the world at the time (the fact that the game was so unapreciated) was at the same time the thing that made the forum community so uniqe and welcoming.
the wait for the next lancer game, be it sequel, add on pack, FLO or a brand new ???lancer title, were now joined on many fronts by alot more people from alot more communities.

yep Starlancer is the best shooter game ever made.. pity the last couple missions are damned hard.

Science is knowledge.
Knowledge is power.
Time is money.
power = work/time
therefore, knowledge= work/money
therefore, money = work/knowledge
therefore, money is inversely proportional to knowledge.

therefore,

The more knowledge you have, the less money you have.

Prepare for the worst, for you have read the worst.
