TLR´s position

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I don't think a loose "sandbox" forum is a good idea. Bargib has rejected a similiar idea in the past, and on top of that jokes aren't even prohibited. There have always been some joke or lighthearted threads, but they weren't the overwhelming majority. I think giving out more warnings is a good idea, though frankly it would be a lot easier if people would read the FAQ and try to abide by the rules. Anyway, the more people we have setting examples the better

No I don't think so either because it would be a flaming, spamming and political fueled forum where everyone can play with no rules... and that's not good
not good at all. I remembered the time when Bargib used to reply for himself, I haven't seen him around for about two months.

as for the "Eraser for Mod" topic. I've experienced Eraser for 4 months now
And I for one think he is worth it

Hmnmm... interesting read... One of the problems is actually tied to my person.... I needed to lay low for a while to get the energy back to support the site more again....

I was actually considering closing, since it started taking too much time form my life, and I hate doing things halfway. But I decided to keep the site up, support it as much as I can, and try to get other people positioned to help you all.

Then hopefully in a month or two I'm so much recovered as to bring TLR to the next level and cover all the current and future Lancer-games.

For the issue raised here... We might decide to make a private forum, where the admins can give access too... that might detoriate the level on the open forums, but give the regulars a "safe haven"? What do you say?

Sounds good Bargib.

And could we please stop asking if some people could be moderators? It kinda irritates me.

I don´t know what got into these people either Wizard (regarding the mod position issue). I already explained that EB made a joke about it and I responded to that joke, that´s all.

Anyway, I also think that sounds like a good solution Bargib.

If you guys can make it seem like there's some incredible stuff going on in there, then other people will behave better and suck up to the admins just so they can join too!! Just spread some rumours, to make it sound like the coolest thing ever!!

As long as the "regulars forum" isn't totally exclusive. It would be nice if new but nice people could join in too. After all, newcomers make forums go around Btw, I think TLR has enough mods. I mean, we have like two or three forum-moderators not to mention the web staff.

bargib's plan is a good one and it's his call as to wheather or not we have this 'regulars forum'. If bargib were to go ahead with this idea he should lock the forum with a password and only give it to regulars who won't tell it to anyone else about it.

No, I don't think it should be open for viewing, that would give a feeling of sortha like... "what is it that's going on there. Why can't I react" and "What are they that I am not" If you would do it. IMO you can sortha like chain it to the profile. As you use IP-addresses to log the profiles you could log the "extra" forum to the IP-addresses of the mods/admins.so they can give the persons they want into it the proper access code. it's just a suggestion but it sounds like a good idea to me

EDIT: sorry, but it needs a supplement tied to it

a regulars forum is a good idea, but i think the true magic of the forums is lost for the moment and its freelancers fault. the thing which brought us together in the first place was a love for an underapreciated digital anvil game whose sequel was set 800 years later (and almost took as long to come out). we were all here moaning over the wait for freelancer and drooling over every inch of freelancer information. now theres no goal, no drive, the bond we formed back then is as strong as george lazenby. when the excitement of freelancer has drifted away and the next game in the series is anounced, things will return to the normal monotony we love.
IMHO its the journy, not the destination were hooked on

Wise words Arcon. But now we've ended our journey, we should make our destination as comfortable as possible.

I agree with everything that has been said up to this point, but would like to reiterate what my position is. I've always that that this is a great place, no question about that...but when people come on and feel an urge to respond to every single active thread on the site, it really takes away from the overall quality of the forums. It's really up to individual members to decide whether or not they want to use their discretion and stop spamming. I don't want to sound all high-and-mighty (realizing that I often do), but unless people can start picking which threads really require their input, it will be hard for TLR to go back to the warm little community that I remember from several years ago.

The more I read this, the more I'm inclined to dismiss what I said earlier and suggest that one of us start a decent thread for a conversation. If you remove all the fun links and jokes etc, there'll be a dead forum here. As Arcon put it so eloquently when I made a rather scathing remark about England

"Life is what you make of it"
so how about we get off our lazy butts and do something about it?
Rather than moping, we start some decent conversations / arguments / debates etc and make sure that those who start to screw around with a perfectly decent thread are dealt with rather more harshly.
Sorry, but this thread itself has been full of people complaining and moaning about what has been and gone, and are far from being pro-active enough. I was looking forward to some deep philosphical threads or such like but nothing has happened.

To quote myself:

So the world around you is what you make of it. If you want TLR to become boring, monotonus and pointless, than nothing can stop that (for you). I, on the other hand, am having loads of fun here, because I want it to be so.

As you can see, I agree with you. And why would anyone flame that point of view? I for one think that it's essential for a person to realise that they're the ones who are most responsilble for their wellfare. Life doesn't change itself -- you have to do it. One more thing: philosophical debates tend to get out of hand, because they're bound to include religion, politics, ethics, and other issues that aren't quite welcome here... At least for me, if a serious "philosophy session" doesn't cover the things in life that affect you the most, then I consider it utterly incomplete and a waste of time. Excuse me while I put on my asbestos (sp?) suit...
