the book Halo:The Flood is awful. the first book is better by far. the book covers the story of the game and also the parts with the droptroopers (in my mind, the redeeming part of the book). thing is though, the game is a first person shooters, aside from the shooting, not alot can really happen. level structure in halo is terrible, probably the worst part of the game so when the book goes
"the master chief shot some dudes, he walked down a corridor, he shot some dudes" thats whast happening in the game. thing is, ive played the game, i dont want the running commentary of PLAYING THE GAME. its not good reading matter is it?
the first book was brilliant, there was no set story so Eric Nuyland, the author, could come up with intresting storis and missions for the chief, expanding on the plot of the game making him into the meanest, hardest, space bastard in the fleet. EVERY battle the chief fights in the first book he kicks ass in, no question, yet the second book rolls around and the descriptions of the chiefs explots are really lame. it makes you wonder if he's gonna make it through. thing is theough, you KNOW that hes gonna make it because hes the goddamn chief, hes in the sequel, so wheres the tension. In the first one we knew he was gonna survive as well, but the fate of every other character was still unknown, outside what we learn in the game is free territory, so the book was a lot more fun.
the sequel is just terrible, you KNOW what happens to the chief, you KNOW what happens to everyone else, so the only hope is to make the journey really gripping, but that falls flat on its face cause the chief is made out to be a big girl and the combat is incredibly boring. If i had read the book first, i WOULDNT want to play the game.

i LOVE halo, its such a good idea (not exactly original but) executed brilliantly
@lutz: the flood IS NOT the weapon. HALO is the weapon. and remember there are at least 3 more, so expect to see another one
