As far as I know, Elite is now freeware. There is a java version of it available somewhere on FL Portal if you can find it.

You can get shareware versions of Frontier and First Encounters here.

Its a bit of a hassle getting Frontier to work under windows but there are some good tutorials kicking round if you search google. I think you need that VDMSound thing to get sound.

Or you could always look in second hand game shops and pick up Elite for a good price. I got WC I and II for £1.25 (DOS 3 1/2 " Disk Versions) in one such shop
