Privateer

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Privateer

I put privateer 2 on my PC, and naturally it doesn't run under XP. Basically, the mouse freezes up on the transit screen (I can still click, so basically I just have to get the pointer wherever I want it within two-thirds of a second) and the videos don't play. I was wondering if maybe I should download a bootdisk from somewhere, and whether anyone new where I can get a good one. Any other suggestions would be welcome, as well.

My recommendation: get a new old-school computer. I'm talking Pentium 1 or a Pentium Pro and make sure it isn't faster than 200MHz. Then, load either Windows 95 or 98 (I'd go with 95 because it is the most friendly for a DOS environment). After that, either get/make a boot disk or write your own config.sys and autoexec.bat files. I've been annoyed that I cannot play many of my old yet still fun games on my new computer. So I'm putting together my old Pentium Pro 200 w/ voodoo2 card and putting Win95 (if I can find it) onto it. I'll finally be able to play Wing Commander 4, Privateer 1 AND 2, and Syndicate and Syndicate Wars. Huzzah!

that means if I can get win95 to run on my pc, I can play my armada....hhmmmm sounds great.. does it uses 3D card acceleration?

I have forgotten how to set up stuff in dos..

Actually, the only Wing Commander game that uses 3d acceleration would be Wing Commander: Prophecy. So, don't worry if Win95 doesn't detect your video card (however, in that case it would be best to have a 2d card to fall back on). Cheers.
