I need math help!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I need math help!

It's for some assigment I'm working on with 3 classmates.
This problem has took us like 60 minutes and we still couldn't complete it :S:S
That's why Im asking you for help!

This is the link: Click me

It's pretty much self explanetary (sp?). I need the whole working out, not just the answers. Preferably for 8.45 AM CET (that's 11.45 PM PST).

Thanks in advance!

Wait, how many solutions do you need?
Also, am having some difficulty in interpreting the handwriting.

Post Mon Jun 02, 2003 9:42 pm

I need the working out for the solution x=0.5.

My handwriting isn't that bad... right?

I got to 0.5 too
But I used my calculator (one with a big display that draws graphs and all, graphical calculator or something)
Really cant tell how to do it without calculator.
Im ashamed, I got a 7 on my math exam.

lol @Peet. To bad my math teacher doesn't accept those kind of solutions for our "praktische opdracht".

I've had this kinde stuf before but, I'm not to sure on it. but some things dont seem to be right.

plotting your formula only shows a grafiek that doesnt come 2ce or 3 times in one Y value as you sugested. Are you sure you have the right numbers? And using the intersect (on my GR) function I get f(x=0.12)=1.25 not 0.5

second point is that the formula should be ax3+bx2+cx+d=0 and NOT x3+ax2+bx+c. This might cause some problems in the wortel line.

/edit
gmbl, cant find my math book right now. Ik hoop dat iemand het wel weet wizard.

Plotting in GR does give the right answer.
Y1 = X^3+10x^2
Y2 = 2 5/8
Isect gives 0.5 and -0.5 (and some values around 10 and -10)

But solving it without GR is beyond my knowledge.
Although I believe I have had this 1 or 2 years ago :s

Ahh, TLR is becoming a hive mind... we will add your mathematical stupidity to our own

matematica isn't exactly my strong point...(for those of you who aren't too bright, "matematica" is mathematics in Bulgarian)

I didn't even learn this to get my engineering degree....

by the way you write things down, you are not into math stuff aren't you?

that one's a tad above me.. not too far if i am right.. btw, i'm only 14.. wat do you expect.. and at least your handwriting's ledgible.. einstein's wasn't.. those with bad handwriting are geniuses, but too bad no one else recognizes it..

Science is knowledge.
Knowledge is power.
Time is money.
power = work/time
therefore, knowledge= work/money
therefore, money = work/knowledge
therefore, money is inversely proportional to knowledge.

therefore,

The more knowledge you have, the less money you have.

Prepare for the worst, for you have read the worst.

EDIT: can you actually gimme the WHOLE question? that might help in interpreting wtf your handwriting is all about. all you gave is a general format of an equation and gave your formula.. unless you guys are waaay above me, i'm sure there's something not provided.

EDIT2: wizard, your an admiral for god sake... how old are you anyways ? and is this cardano your friend's name or the guy who made the formula's name ? (i'm thinking its the name of the formula.. i seen it somewhere b4..)

why dont you just use the pythagorean formula?

try out this prob I found in my business calc class

the first day there were 7 fruit flys, 10 days later there were 96. How many will there be in 16 days... Its not an easy answer but easy in if you know calc....

second point is that the formula should be ax3+bx2+cx+d=0 and NOT x3+ax2+bx+c. This might cause some problems in the wortel line

It is x^3+ax^2+bx+c=0

The formula I have is x^3+10x^2=2,625.
So a=10, b=0 and c= -2.625.
Now you have to calculate the values of p and q.
p= b-0.33a^2. That give -33,33.

q= -2/27a^3+1/3*a*b-c
q= -2/27*1000 -2,625.
q= -76,6990074074

Now you can fill in the Cardano formula. Can someone please do that for me? I'm really thankful!

And I'm 16 BTW.

Do you Americans have to take exams at 16?

I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots, or only five? Tell you the truth, in all the excitement I kind of lost track myself. Being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful hand gun in the world, it'll take your head clean off. So you gotta ask yourself one question - do I feel lucky? Well......do ya? Punk?
