Beta Testing

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Beta Testing

Has anyone else done beta-testing? I am doing my first ever beta test now, on Planetside. It is simultaneously one of the most fun and most frustrating things I have ever done. It is fun because the game is incredible, even in a paritially finished state, and it is frustrating because the game IS partially finished, and as such still has bugs, balance issues and the rest. Overall though, I'd say it is worth it, because I get to play the game for free and help the Devs find the problems with it. This has also made me feel sorry for the Devs, who have to listen to a whole bunch of people complaining about bugs in a beta. Imagine that, bugs in a beta-test.
What do you guys think about beta-testing?

A good experience, but not for those with short tempers or anybody who gets frustrated easily. I got into the closed beta for PS a few weeks before open began, and it was horrible. The server was terribly unstable even with less than 300 players (that was the peak at the time). But eventually it got better and you could actually play a whole session without being booted. The peak got up to around 1000 players with everything running smooth. Then open beta came... Ruined all that It's getting better, though, but not nearly like the calm-before-the-open-beta-storm
Do you read the beta forums? It's disgusting... There are people that have no right to be playing the game. Every time the servers go down for an update or a patch takes longer than expected theres people like "OMFG **** DAVEG" (and things far worse) and blame other individuals who have absolutely no control. For example the servers went down one time and one of the artists for the game was in the beta chat trying to keep people informed, and people were blaming HIM on the servers being down, which are located halfway across the country frmo where the devs are located.

People like that shouldn't be in the beta... For others, it can be a rich and rewarding learning experience, especially those looking to get into the industry (though it may not neccessarily help you get in, hehe)
