Time Travel: What would you do with it?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

IMO if you go into the past your precense there would already change the current timeline

Locutus,

In a way, yes...When you insert yourself into that time line, theorhetically you could contaminate the time line just by being there, if you go for that quatum reality thing (Forget the theory) Adding your quantum presense to that timeline, could, according to the theory(I am locating that theory and if I find it, will post it) could upset the quantum balance.

However, there is current research saying that PAradoxes cannot happen. You will always be bound to the "Present" you came from, no matter what you go back and do.

In that link I posted above...

Says that if you go back and attempt to kill your grandmother at birth, it will constantly fail, because she is "fated" to live.

Take H.G. Wells' Time Machine...No matter what he did, the woman he loved died, because she was MEANT to. You cannot change the past, because it is already written. Following that theory, you couldn't even change the future, because in it's perspective, the past already happened, and cannot be changed.

Meaning that we are all locked in an unchangeable line. No matter what we do, we have to do what we are destined to do.

Saying theohetically...If I was destined to become the savior of the universe, and I knew this. I did not WANT to be the savior...No matter what I did, I would become the savior. I could go around and commit mass murder to try to get the death penalty...and even if I was sentenced....At the last minute, the Governor would call and say it was all a mistake, you are free to go.

Sounds implausable? Well according to that theory...You cannot change Destiny or Fate, so no matter what we do, it's already written.

Kinda makes you feel not in control anymore when you think of it like that...That's why I don't believe that theory...I like to think we at least have some control over our lives.

Here's a question....

Are there really "Good Guys" and "Bad Guys", or does it just relate to perspective?

Do not bring up current events, because that is a sensitive subject for a lot of people.

Did Jesse James think he was the "Good Guy" and the Law was the "Bad Guys"?

Something Awful

This post reminded me of an ongoing argument we have in Politics class...

I'd do all the stuff you guys would do (taking over the world and such), but for whoever it was who mentioned killing Hitler. Yeah, sure, you kill Hitler... but there was anti-Semitism long, long before Hitler, and tons of people just as genocidal as he was. Probably would do a more thorough job than he did, too.

If you killed Hitler, you wouldn't end up having a Hitler... but you'd have say, a Himmler, or a Goebbels, or someone else. (Not because they're probably replacements, but because they're names I figure you'd recognize)

In fact... I'd probably knock off Hitler and redirect Germany towards more expansion and less genocide. I'd probably still cause WW2, but somethings just happen. After brushing up on my German, of course.

we learn from the past rite... and try not to do it again... well, if i go back into the past and undo those mistakes... i'd not learn from it in the altered time i come from rite? if effects of changing what happned in the past was instantaneous, then i'd be in real trouble, like in harry potter, YOU MUST NOT BE SEEN well, thats really important i guess, that'd be 'contaminating' time. and i'm not gonna even think about einstein's theories and quantum whatnot... but this is what i'd do;
1) go back about 5 years and go have a throurough talk with my past self and also teach my past self better english, and so i'd come back with a pretty GF and better english, along with what malay, korean, and german i know to my past self.
2) go back and kill one particular school chairman that i'm going to now, it just be good for everyone.
3) observe how the stone hege (s/p?) was built for..
4) and to make time travel pay, i'd have a go at all the pretty gurls in my last school..
5) i'd go up to hitler and give him a through talk (after i master all martial arts and commando junk and carry an automatic rifle, MP5 isn't too bad, witha grenade launcher) to get a bit lenient, and let anne frank go.. then i wouldn't have to read her diary for history class...
6) teach the scientists how to make the atomic bomb.. but not after presenting both sides with a pentium 4, 3.6 Ghz 60GB 2.1gig RAM, DVD-RW, LCD monitor, Scanner, Modem, internet access, keyboard and all accesories computer + my present time version of Encarta 2002. hopefully they'll learn faster and i'll go back to a space age world.

presently, my world is upside down, so if u do not mind, u'll have to tok to my a$$

How come nobody mentioned Helen of Troy? She's supposed to be the real babe of history.

What I would like to do, is somehow go back to being a kid again, but knowing everything I know now.

@Bhurak Starkiller: I guess the fun of being a kid is in NOT knowing the things the adults do

Post Tue Apr 08, 2003 9:43 am

Go back and tell myself that parents aren't always right!!! That way I wouldn't be in the mess I've allowed myself to get in now
Failing that, become a travel junky and sail through time going to parties

True, zlo, but I figure having a childhood once is good enough, and I could totally cash in on Microsoft (and the whole internet boom, in general). I've also just made a lot of mistakes in my life (who hasn't?), and would like to have seen a number of things go the way I wanted. Say I knew how to program when I was like, 6. I would SO be in the game development industry right now! It boggles the mind.

@Bhurak Starkiller: right, I understand you, it would be cool, but then, there are plenty of things you CAN do, right? And, I dougt whether Microsoft or anybody else would hire a child, however skilled. You should still have to wait till you're of legal age to work. Also, think of another shortcoming - how about buying drings, going to the pubs, hooking chicks, etc. Too darn much waiting, IMO.
