Defragmenting program.....

Defragmenting program.....

Ok, im looking for a good defragmentor for my WinXP machine. From past experiences with WinXP defrags, things tended to go wacky right after a defrag (i used Norton) and so i vowed never to defrag again....till now when the performance decrease it crazy and cuz of the increased HD activity ive seen.

Anyways, ive already tried Diskeeper and Norton. Diskeeper was weird. I dont know why it needs to defrag 50 times just to get ur HD completely defragmented..seems like kinda stupid to me. But ive tried Diskeeper and let it run itself over and over again (set and forget, i believe it was called) and I also disabled the msg it gives after every run through, but it still wouldnt defrag successfully. After every defrag run, it would stop....bleh.

Norton was the one i used before and some really odd things started to happen on my computer. LOL, dont ask what odd things cuz i dont remember but I just remember that some weird things happened afterwards which seemed to dissipate with time....

So, can anyone recommend another good program I can use to defrag or maybe help me with Diskeeper, cuz it looks like a solid program but it just operates weird....

Thx in advance.

EB, I swear by Norton and am using WinXP. It is very good and my system doesn't act weird. As a matter of fact , it runs smoother. I don't know what to tell you because I would have recommended Norton.

I came. I saw. I conquered. And sometimes get conquered.

EB... Format your machine insted... The result is far better and you get a completely clean machine. Just remember to backup all your need little files..

I also have had a couple of bad experiences with defragmenting..

Formatting is good, but make sure you have all relevant drivers available aswell. I forgot to find the graphics card driver for the M-board and my lovely screen had such a low resolution I thought I had a bbc again!!!! (Saying that, it was my old comp!!)

Be wary of formatting your machine using XP, you only get to register XP so many times before you have to ring up and beg (and I mean really beg) Microsoft for a new code. So if your going to re-install XP make sure you have a good reason.

I didn't know that Mustang...
I've formatted my XP 2 times already.. I have the home edition...

But still, formatting is great.

If it called for a formatting, i woulda formatted, but for now, XP has been performing admirably for almost a year without any formatting unlike Win98 where after half a year, the OS would get quirky.

Have you guys tried Perfect Disk?

Thx for the help.

I tried PerfectDisk2000 and it worked swell! All the colours were actually in order unlike Diskeeper....
