mission 21...mission: impossible

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. This also the only place where spoilers are allowed!

I've lost more missions by hitting torpedoes than letting my protected ship blow up.

Firstly, Phoenix rocks! Boo to shroud!

Okay. Actually, getting a ship with blindfire is the best. But there's a funny quirk about blindfire: it only works when just one pair of guns is selected. That means that to get blind fire to work on ships like the phoenix or patriot, you need to press G (I think it's G by default) to select only one pair of guns.

Secondly, torpedoes have like 1 hit point. That means one shot from the weakest gun will hit. Therefore, you want the fastest firing gun so as to get the highest chances of hitting a torpedo. On the phoenix, that's the gattling lasers.

So we have gattling lasers with blindfire on a phoenix. And now I just remember that we have to change the loadout. You'll want to have 2 fuel pods (lots of afterburning). The other two slots could either be Screamers (20 dumb-fire missiles) or solomons (4 automatic aquiring missiles) I go with screamers (to take out secondary objectives) but you may want the solomons.

So now we've just nuked the carriers, and are taking off from the yamato again. First thing you want to do when you get control is to immediately afterburn to where the first torp bomber appears. (It's about 45 degrees to your left, but I'm not sure). If you can, kill it before it gets to launch its torps. (Makes a job SO much easier, but watch out for the resulting shockwave). If you manage to kill it, good. If not, then switch to gattling guns and take out the torpedoes with blindfire gattlings.

Now, keep pressing T until you target the closest torpedo. Afterburn towards it, then kill that group of 4 (If it automatically selects a torpedo in another group after killing this group, press Y to target the torpedo under your targetting sights)

I forget if there's 3 or 4 bombers total in this mission, so just do the same for the next group(s).
And if you need to, send a group of four solomons to take out a group of torpedoes.

@Taw - I believe you're up for the grave digging award

And I shall take that award from him, muhuhahaha (I've been playing SL a lot lately, I'm in an SL mood, leave me alone!)

Anyway. Phoenix is a good choice. Gattling lasers. If you afterburn quickly to the nearest torp bomber as soon as you launch, you can take it out with possibly a jackhammer or your lasers with most of its torps onboard. That'll help. Then take out the torp it managed to launch as fast as you can, and then start working on the rest. Blind fire is a given. I never lose this way (though I have run into anti-carrier flak before now, after going through all that, which is frustrating to say the least).

Turn off full fire and use blind fire. Torps go down like flies.

Forget the Phoenix for this level - you don't need it's agility and it suffers from a lack of gun energy when you have a lot of torp bombers to take out. I did this mission on my second attempt using a Reaper (and this is the only mission I would recommend a reaper for).
First of all, ignore the basalisks unless they are actually shooting at you and take out the shield generator on the Pukov (use ful guns and SCREAMERS - you have lots of hardpoints on a Reaper) Use BLIND FIRE and VULCAN BATTERIES for anti Torpedo duties and full guns for taking out the torp bombers. To do this, hang around over the Pukov's hanger doors (it's safe because you wiped her gun turrets out - you did wipe them all out, didn't you??). As they launch, drop in behind them and keep firing! When you run out of gun energy, don't worry because your vulcan batteries will keep firing! If the baddies cloak before you've got them all, again, don't worry because you will be so close and they will be going so slowly that you will be able to shoot them anyway. Just don't get too close - when those torps go up, being in the blast radius is unhealthy.
Eventually, you will have to take out the fighters. Blind fire can help you make accurate atacks at long range with the vulcan batteries - save your gun energy for when you're so close you can't miss. Take Vagabond missiles if you're worried about hitting basilisks but if you've got this far, you should be a good enough pilot to take them out with no real hassle.

In general, hang around the Pukov if you can - don't get suckered into chasing a basilisk all over the place while sneaky coalition torp bombers are creeping up on the Yamato.

Ban REVERSE THRUST! Fly something other than a phoenix for a change!

Load up a ship with more fuel for that booster thing (Forgot what it is called)
and allways use it to get to the torpbombers, also choose a ship with powerfull weaponry...wolferien recommended!!

I find that the patriot is good if you load it with 2 fuelpods and 3 raptor pods

Stop complianing and start playing

Use a Reaper, the Vulcan Battries on double fire can take out a torp with 1 shot, forget the bombers concentrqate on the Torpedos, have ur burners on always while intercepiting the torps, for feul sake take a least 4 feul pods

I know I shall meet my fate, somewhere in the stars above, those I fight I do not hate, those I guard I do not Love
