mission 21...mission: impossible

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. This also the only place where spoilers are allowed!

mission 21...mission: impossible

okay...i have been stuck in this game before but this time there is absolutely nothing i can do...i have tried it maybe about 25 times or so and have got the torp launch bit down (did it right the first time...now i can do it in my sleep)...then i cloak...get back to the yamato change to my favourite Pheonix (with 4 hawk pods) and fly out to teach those torp bombers a thing or two about tactics...now this is the part i am having trouble with coz i cant kill all of the torps...no matter how hard i try...no matter how many times i tell my squadron to attack my target...i can never kill all of the torps...what should i do???

Step up to da plate...you is gonna DIE!!!

Before the mission, in the loadup select the missiles that auto-target enemy targets - can't remember what they are called since it's been a year or 2 since I played. However, if you hover "above" the Yamato and every time a salvo of torps come in, fire off half a dozen of those missiles and keep pressing cycling through the target select to find the nearest torps. They usually come in batches from opposite sides of the Yamato, so you can turn round, fire off your own salvo then watch the fireworks!! Took me ages to figure this out for myself - many a frustrated evening watching that carrier blow up!

Shocked....

Get a ship with Blind Fire on it. That would be much eaiser.

A patriot or reaper is a reasonable idea - use either the tachyon cannons (patriot) or vulcan batteries (reaper) and blind fire. Don't use full guns! Load up with solomons if you like but it can be done with guns alone.

Ban REVERSE THRUST! Fly something other than a phoenix for a change!

Is this the mission you have to deal with the Black Guard carrier? If so, I'd suggest (after dealing with the shield generator and the turrets - make sure you deal with the main flak ones!) hovering over the bay gate - thus you can shoot all torp bombers coming out. I tend to ignore (well, not totally) the torps from the carrier and concentrate on torp bombers. The Yamato does receive some damege, but she survives. Anyway, I should re-visit the game to be a competent advisor

Just remember...if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

ok this is the Varyag mission right? the one where u fly Kamovs for the first part, wipe out the Varyag, scoot back to the Yamato, swap to another (pre-selected) ship and get the torps that come in for the Yamato? I can't do this mission I thought i'd got good at SL torp-plinking but i just can't get from one place to another fast enough. some one give me a clue pls? well actually just tell me how to do the GODDAM thing!

I've tried several different walkthroughs' advice but still can't do it. I'm just a total SL loser

Pick the missiles that says "fire and forget" it was either Hawk or Solomon, it's been a long time . Pick the speediest ship, Shroud is my top choice for this - armor is not necessary for this.

nope still can't do it, shoot down the first 2 then the rest just flood in and i can't get to 'em. Either I'm rubbish (surely not?) or u winding me up, FF!

@Taw - I believe you're up for the grave digging award

On topic, you can do it, just with difficulty. It's like the race with Hovis on FL, it just takes perseverance. I found that a ship with the best agility worked the best, and therefore you can get to the torps easily enough. The other alternative is to fly into the torpedos, creating an explosion that SHOULD wipe out that battery. But then you have to sit and watch that bloody vasquez woman go on about "today we are assembled to pay our respects to one of our own . . ." etc.

Afterburners.
Put on a full load of fuel pods (c'mon, the pheonix' guns are good enough) and just afterburner to the torps with full power on engines. Don't get in the way of the torps, I've lost many a mission that way.
