Oh I see. Yes one can make a living from Trade. Personally made a lot of money from trading so far. Missions are available as well.

As for mining, I am not sure what the current status on that is. It is something we have considered and I am pretty sure that we have several prototype designs laying about concerning mining.

I do know we do not want a "Jumpgate" type mining system (The type were you grab your ship, plant yourself in front of a mine and then grab a book and mine away while reading several chapters before the rock has been leeched).

We dont want an instant mine either. A lot of possibilities to play with, how it ultimately turns out is yet written in the stars.

1. Will all aliens be humanoid? With humanoid I mean creatures that have two legs, two arms, a head and everything and have the shape of an average human.

2. Why won't players be able to land on planets like in Freelancer? I'll miss the nice environments.

@Eerazor

Many Questions

1. The use of mouse is #1 for me I hate joysticks. Is mouse in or out will it be as good as Freelancers mouse controls?

2. Armor upgrades or add-ons?

3. Power Plants upgrade or add-ons?

4. Leveling 1-????

5. Will there be a max money amount like FL or will it be in the trillions??

6. Modding will it be easy to mod, and will we get rights to mod freely?

7. Ship handling how well does it handle, and can we by upgrades for that also?

8. Cargo hold how big? And can that be upgraded?

9. Engines can they be upgraded?

10. Weapons can they be upgraded?

11. What is the projected time of release if any?

12. Looting of killed ships? Like weapons, cargo, armor, engines, power plants, Scanners, tractor beams etc. etc.? Will these items be in the game?

13. What about Game support? Will there be support, and a team to make patches as needed?

14. Mod Support?

The game looks very promising, and exciting, if mouse controls are as good as Freelancer I will be buying this game.

Many Answers

1. In my opinion the mouse controls are better than Freelancer (My fingers killed me after too much FS playing. DSO is a lot nicer to the hands)

2. Hull upgrades and add-ons are done as you will see in (hopefully) this weeks trailer

3. Yes, power plants are upgradable

4. Ah a little more complicated. The three main upgrade groups (Hull, Engine, Wings) can be upgraded from lvl 1-10. Same goes for generators, lasers, missiles etc.

5. MAX money in DSO is defined by the long intreger... 2.2+ billion go over that and negative numbers start cropping up.

6. Tricky question. We found it very easy to mod the game (with specialized tools). How we are going to support the modding community (if we officially do this, as this has not fully been decided yet either) then certain things will need to be made available. Discussion on if this is going to happen are also in progress.

7. She handles pretty clunky at the beginning of the game. Pretty fine towards the end of it so yes, you can upgrade that too.

8. 20Tons can be stored on DarkStar One. Then you can use cargo containers (50t, 100t, 200t). With upgrades you can take a maximum capacity of 620t.

9. Yep they can, watch for the trailer....

10. Yes they can. You can also purchase the weapons from the other 6 races and upgrade those too during gameplay.

11. Q2 2006 or "When it is done..."

12. Cargo ships can and will drop their cargo on occasion. There are plenty of surprises to be found in them. There is also the occasional container floating about in a system...

13. Ascaron values its customers. Being in Customer Support for 3 years prior to joining the Darkstar One Team I can assure maximum customer support from our side. The team will continue patching the game until it feels it needs no longer be patched so upon release those quirks etc. should be posted in the then created report section of the official DSO forum (Which will then be passed on from myself directly to the team to work on). So Game and Customer Support are big "YES'"

14. Kinda but not directly. You could inter-change ships (if you have Maya Export Filters), change ship stats etc. How far the modding is going to do is going to depend on how far we can try and make it mod-friendly in the time we have. An alternative plan, and one we will most likely follow, is look at a more concentrated mod support after the game has been released.

@Hahukum

I wish I could say. Not for at least another month or two. That much is certain. HOWEVER, do keep an eye out on the ASCARON page. Those from Europe have the chance to participate in the Beta phase... due to start soon so keep an eye out on www.ascaron.com.

Almost missed your post there Neder.

1. There are not only aliens with one head, two arms and two legs. Some have more, some have none...

2. To be honest there is not really a viable reason to spend months developing over 300 planet surface structures just so the player can do the same things he can do on a station. Remember a space game is a "SPACE" game, designed to be in space. Stations fill the role that planets did in Freelancer. Sure it looks nice at first but you skip the sequences after a few days of playing and you ignore them completely after a few weeks of playing until you do not notice them. Then comes a new game and you suddenly remember how cool a feature seemed that you only noticed for a short while in a game

Besides, what we don't do on planets surfaces means that we have plenty of things we can do in space. Planet-side missions will be available though, so you can fly on a planets surface in certain missions. Not just canyons but tunnels as well...

@ Eerazor

Thanks For the quick reply, and I can't wait to get my copy. I believe many questions have been answered. I am happy to see The Lancers Reactor covering Dark star One.

1. Oh! And when will the other race profiles be posted at http://www.darkstar-one.com/?

2. Once you have the best of everything for your ship, will it still be a challenge to fight NPC's? Or like Freelancer once you have the best nothing can kill you? I'm mainly talking about Single Player, as I'm sure MP will not be that way. Basically will it be well balanced, or a kids arcade game?

P.S. Not trying to be rude just asking questions?

@flybyu

lol you are not rude at all.

1. The Race update on the webpage will come as soon as the person responsible for it has time to implement it (since he also works on the international contract sealing etc. the poor guy has a very long list of "things to do".

2. Well i got my behind kicked pretty majorly today after picking a fight with a few too many police ships that just overran me after a prolonged period of battle. As a cruiser came in to support the already high number of fighters and me noticing an apparent lack of missiles all i could do was watch how i was being taken apart... a piece at a time.

I lasted a good 20 minutes as well.... pretty high kill rating but the longer you stay and fight, the harder it gets, no matter how strong your ship

Since I do not reside in the US I am afraid I cannot say. I can only assume it is like here in Germany that games available from Amazon and co are also available in your local store that has a selection of video games, DVDs etc.

At least we have that with places like Saturn, Karstadt etc.

Were do I sign up to beta test this piece of brilliance? I like the sound as well.
