Weapons?

ive started freelancer last sunday and it's kickass sweet. Anyway, how do I get good weapons for my class? I know how to buy weapons, but none of the arms dealers on planets i pass through on the main missions have those weapons in stock! the quantity is always 0 -.-
Should I do more 'bar missions' and get weapons from enemies I kill?
Im level 10 now and im at planet Leeds, where I have to gain 1 more level to continue the main missions, with juni and sinclair.

thanks in advance,
nuclear

It is impossible to get 0 quantity weapons at bases, as all bases never run out of stock. The weapon you wish to buy is probably greyed out, which means you cannot purchase it because: a) Your ship does not have any available hardpoint for that weapon or b) You must be frendlier with the faction that owns the base before you can purchase it.

The best weapons, i see, are either Rheinland or criminal weapons. Since you're doing a tory mission, you cannot enter Rheinland territory until you're escorting Von Claussen out of the system. Criminal weapons, are of course, weapons that criminals use. But to get these weapons you must be either allied or neutral to them.

Since you're in Leeds, there are no good police/naval weapons available at your rate. Get neutral with the Molly's or the Corsairs then go to any base that they own and buy weapons.

Before i can say any further, what kind of ship do you have? Is it a Crusader or a Cavalier or the Bretion Freighter Clydesdale?

Oh, and welcome to TLR by the way and enjoy your stay!

thanks for the reply, I already found out why I couldnt buy new weapons, I had to unequip my current weapons first I have a cavelier with 4 Avengers class3 equipped at the moment, the only better weapons were heavy weapons with 30 energy usage and low projectile speed so I'll stick with the avengers ;-)

Yes, here is a little advice. If weapons are lower in class and have a high projectile speed, then they're mostly useless. If weapons that are in a lower class have high damage rates then it is probably a slow projectile speed. But of course, higher damage rate weapons will take more power out of your ship's powergenerator.

Also, get out of the Cavalier and get into a Crusader (Even if it is the ugliest looking ship in the game) which is more power and stronger.

What level are you at the moment?

If you're feeling really adventurous, go exploring the debris fields and clouds.
There is usually good loot to be had at the risk of being irradiated and shot at though. But, it makes the trip worthwhile.
Sometimes, you'll even find weapons that you can't even equip until you've finished the story..but they sell for a good price.

You're not limited to just doing missions out of the bar. For me, that's the last option I would consider since I enjoy exploring. I've always leveled up faster when finding those "lost treasures" .

im at planet kyusu now, where I have to gain another level (again, sigh). I really want to go on with the missions and find out what this artifact is all about... (don't spoiler me please)

I bought a draken with 4 sunfury's, a heavy thruster and a sentinel L.F. class 5 shield, i like the sunfury's because of their fast fire rate, im a total newb at dog fighting, still. does anyone have some nice strategies for me? I always just aim at the red plus but at enemies that are maneuvering alot, I hit the space bar and persue them from close behind, but as my ship moves too while aiming, its a lot harder and I miss alot with low refire guns.

I just like getting in a nice big freighter and switching to Turret View - Space Flight and stopping my engines then just firing at AI (Artificial Intelligence).

But for DogFighting, keep using your thrusters and weapons to avoid being hit at. And also start moving around randomly shooting at the AI. Also, i recommend getting out of that Cavalier of yours and find a HF (Heavy Fighter) instead of that Cavalier LF (Light Fighter).

Good Luck in Freelancer.

takes practice, but I think you'll catch on quick.
When you're aiming at your target, you have a little leeway around the red + .
I've also noticed that those who are targeted have a tendency to be more evasive. So, while you're pursuing them, their buddies sneak up on you from behind (or some blind spot) .
So, when I can get away with it..if I do target someone, I'll often pay attention to the others who are lurking nearby trying to "snipe" me.
In close quarters combat, I found out that keeping the engine killed (Z) and using only the thruster, I could turn quicker at sharper angles of attack.
Also, with the engine killed and you're moving away with them hot on your tail, you can pivot around to face them (while moving backwards) . They don't know what to do, so they fall back further giving yourself a chance to escape or regroup to pick your next target.

Often, I've discovered that if you injure the flight leader enough (without killing him) the entire group will break off and retreat. (but remember, this does not happen with you're on a "mission" )

thanks for the advice,i didnt know there was a 'turret' view, or is that just space bar? anyway, im not in a cavalier anymore, im in a draken. Ill try the freighter (pronounced as 'frigger?') tactics later.

Rankor, i think what you're saying is incorrect. I nearly always fight in close combat with a targeted enemy and they never come behind me or near a spot i cannot see and start shooting.

Once you have targeted an AI player, then they know you're going for them so they start using thrusters and taking more precaution.

Nuclear, to enter Turret View press the 'H' key while in space. You'll get a view of your entire ship, and you can start using your turrets to shoot at enemies that are at the bottom, side, above, in front and behind your ship. While in Turret mode, you can press the 'Spacebar' and your view will move wherever your mouse is at the edge of the screen instead of clicking and dragging your mouse all the time. Space Flight is not only for Turret Mode but you can also use it in Free Flight combat, because whenever you have to move your ship you have to click and drag your mouse to the edge of the screen. But with Space Flight, you can move your mouse to the edge without clicking and you can just keep firing at the enermies that come past.

By the way, it is not pronounced Frigger it is pronounced Frate-er.

Any other help needed, just post.

Gee whiz DudeOfThed...
Maybe it's those rascals in my mod then. They're a bunch of rotten backstabbing skunks...especially the nomads. Can't turn your back on them for a second or next thing you know, your shield is going down quick followed shortly by your hull.

thanks again guys, im at the kyoto dragons base now, doing some missions before i can continue the main missions. Should i buy the hawk there or stick with my draken?

Post Sat Sep 22, 2007 5:40 am

I've tried different ships at different times when I've reached Kyoto.
Dragon, Hawk & Barracuda. I favored the Barracuda for some reason although the Dragon is equally adept. I shy away from light fighters such as the Hawk since the action from there on out becomes more intensive. I like the heavier armor and firepower the Dragon and Barracuda offer.
That, along with the Class 5 & 6 Graviton HF shields have more capacity for protection.

You should get the Bounty Hunters heavy fighter, Barracuda. As it can with-stand many hits and has a good amount of armour for your next mission.

Get out of that Kusari Dragon and enter the Barracuda.

Good Freelancing!

I'd really like to do missions for criminals and buy their stuff but i have no clue how and where to find their bases, and most of the time im in the middle of a mission and they don't allow me to wander off :/
