nice design, even though it's not my personally preferred type of ship

i'd say, 3.5 to 4 on 5 (but that's mostly because of the fact that i don't like the style in which is made, so if it were, i guess 4.5 is in order)

if you're trying to get it to smooth, i believe there is a point where it simply won't smooth right(>35deg?), eg the angle is too great. also you might try rotating the problem-polys (view your model in flat-white shading to really see geometry problems) - also if your model has multiple groups, i think ms3d won't smooth across them in export

Wow there is some really nice work going on here. I especially like the headlights as engine glow. Great idea to add more to the game.
I just posted a new ship on the TLR Texture and Model Exchange

Here is a pic

Hi all, long time elsewhere lol. Just a quick question, would anybody be interested in a complete set of fighters from the Tachyon the Fringe game? And i do mean a complete set.

I have them all in 3DS format and was thinking of converting them to FL.

Post Mon Jul 09, 2007 5:51 am

depends on how they look like
do you have screenshots?

Ever the optimist i see Swat, i'll stick some piccies up once i've converted a few of them to give you an idea.

Here are some pics of a ship I made for the Shattered Worlds Mod (www.shatteredworlds.net). This is not a render, just a screenshot from Milkshape pasted onto a cheezy background I made in photoshop.

Its been updated a bit since the screenies were taken... but it look basically the same.

that is hot, particularly the bell nozzled engines - you did clean up the stretched texture mapping on the wing's edges later i assume....

Post Sun Aug 19, 2007 9:26 am

Thanks Cold_Void, that means alot coming from you.

Yeah, I ended up fixing the texture on the side of the wings. And made some other changes to the model, to include making the wings look a bit edgier and modifying the engines abit in the attempt to to capture the rugged Corsair theme.

It was alot of fun doing this model, never before have I used milkshape to texture. After toying around with it, I've found its immensely easier than doing it in Maya. The only downside is its not as flexible and I can't be as precise with it as I can in Maya due to the fact I can't manipulate a duplicate of the geometry in Maya then transfer the UVs for a perfectly seamless and non-warped texture across the whole body of the ship.

Nevertheless, it does the job good enough and is hell of alot easier :-D

well, maybe I don't know anything about modeling , but personally I use LithUnwrap because it offers much better unwrapping, more precision, and there's a nifty little test-pattern you can use to check for the dread stretch-marks also it handles ms3d files with no go-between conversions

I've finally sorted the texture issues i had with the models i was converting from Tachyon the Fringe. Special thanks goes to Bejaymac and Nightstalker for help with getting the models happening in milkshape.

Very, very nice mate! I would be very interested in the Mace there if you wanted to share it. Any chance in getting a Cutlass from Tachyon?

Post Sat Aug 25, 2007 11:19 am

I will be releasing these as a ship pack once i get round to finishing them off. I have all the models textured now, had to realign all the uvmaps which was a pain but i have about 90% of the fighters now. All i need to do is put them in HardCMP and do some icons, see how they fly and then i'm done.

Here's the Cutlass for you Thaddeus
