well, if you mean the small cubes and thingies all over the surface of some of the models, then you should be able to do it aswell
you see, there's a plugin for 3DS max 9, called greeble, which lets you randomly generate details on a surface, it's really handy (though you need to watch out for the polycount)

I'm pretty new to creating ship models. I can make them look fairly ok, but i have trouble setting them into groups that milkshape can skin. Once i've got my next release out of the way i'm planning on making up a bunch of ships.
I have just added one though that i am pretty happy with, its called the Doberman Superiority from Frontierspace v175. There is a page on my website http://www.frontierspace.co.uk about the ship:

There is a couple of pretty small images below, its based around the Anubis and has some rear facing red headlights to look like engine glow and some front facing headlights set into the wings.

@RQAlucard, i like the style that your models have, in particular the "unimasdirectoratesentrybz7" image. I'd like to see it skinned, maybe with a few glow maps for its engine detail.
Great work.

well, that's something the skinner at our team will be doing, but he'll definitely add glowmaps, so don't worry
an E.T.A. on the skin is unavailable, the best thing to do is to just check the requiem forums :p

slapped this together yesterday after taking a crash course w/ Drizzt4.0's tutorial, is designed to be a HF, I'm working on the LF next, and then the VHF and maybe a FR if I'm up to it.. the model has been unwrapped w/ texporter and the small amount of texturing done is just a mock up to get an idea of how I want the details to look. (the cockpit is recessed, the blue window will be textured & tinted a red to smoke grey gradient on completion.)

Certainly has some potential. Looks nice, a good texture and I'm thinking it'll look pretty sexy.

Howdy all, working on a clan ship here. Shooting for a lighter fighter that's zippy, sorta invid styled / alien. Just having a tiddle bit of an issue with the seams as you'll see in the Dealer ingame shot.
Now, I had groups set up, then textured, then snapped verts together that were along seams and welded. There are a few areas where the weld does not seem to stick, am I correct in assuming I'd have to weld all the groups before texturing to prevent this?

Screenshots;
1st group : Max renders with just basic coloring
2nd group : Milkshape shots before welding
3rd group : After welding and imported into FL with textures, lightmap, HP's, and sur
