lvxoccvlta:
I still think that the Texas TL CTD is related to a ship.
Try deleting the mod's "Ships" folder and then run the mod.

I agree about the surreal systems.
I was getting VERY frustrated with Gemini, and I started going bonkers with Freelancer Explorer.
I can change them out once everything is working right.

What do you mean?

Is it possible to make an open SP / MP version without any of the FL storyline in there?

It IS Open SP without the Storyline!!!
Just DON'T TALK TO JUNI!!!
(Talking to Juni activates the storyline.)

To change the names back, just delete the mod's "NameResources.dll" file.
(Also, a map "Gemini.jpg" is included with the mod, and may be printed to help you to Navigate through Gemini.)
Also, I eventually plan to rename the tradelanes...
But that's gonna be a massive undertaking!!!

Oh, and thanxs for the kind words.

Ah that works fine, it doesn't CTD like it used to. You are right.. i should have paid attention to the other posts!

As for the open SP thing, I guess I was being too vague. I had asked if it was possible to remove everything from the FL storyline.. what I meant to say: Is it possible to remove virtually all traces of the old FL universe ?

Is it too much of an undertaking? If you remove all the tradelanes, you wont have to rename them I don't know if altering it that much would cause it to crash. I'd like to help work on this.. but realized I am too dumb. I tried dorking with FL Explorer.. and just when I think something goes right, it doesnt. The program itself is a piecemeal, and I can see why people prefer the hardcore INI scripting. I think someone out there should develop a FLDevelopers Toolset.. where all programs are integrated nicely-- whether or not it crashes FreeLancer that cant be helped. But right now with the FLExplorer its so messed up that it says "CANT FIND FILE C:\TEMP" every time I attempt to save. I think it has to do with making changes to the DLL, and it dosent do it anymore.

Anyhoo, I said it once, and will again: The FreeWorlds starwars total conversion universe was nicely done (I have an older 1.52 version). They were able to change the Sirius Sector background map picture into a starwars galaxy. The whole map itself is also brand spanking new..it appears to be built from the ground up. New York system doesnt exist.. at all, nor anything remotely resembling FL.

I wonder if they have any tips on how to get such a total conversion working so well without the quirky crashes.

lvxoccvlta:
Well, I'm assuming you removed the "Ships" folder?
If I'm correct, once BoH_Havoc's ship's are repaired the CTD should go away.

Yes, it is possible...
It only takes about 5 minutes, or so, to remove all of the tradelanes from a single system.
(I did it for one of my early attempts at making Gemini.)
Unfortunately, to many people, myself included, enjoy running through the missions.
And the missions require certain systems, including their tradelanes.

Not only that...
Removing the Tradelanes from a system as large as, say, New York, would require 5-10 minutes (real-world time) to traverse.
That's a bit much!
One of my new systems takes about 7 minutes to traverse, so I had to add tradelanes in many of them.

I agree about Freelancer Explorer, and the need for a comprehensive mod-maker program.

BTW-I'm writing a quick mod for you.
I'll upload it to the ftp site, it's called "CTD Finder."
Run it after activating v3.0 and see if you still get the CTD.
If you do, it's not the Tarsus, or the Orion, as I suspect.
If not, then we've found the problem.

(If need be, I'll keep making them until we find which ship(s) are doing it.)

Now it's crashing again. But its not consistent? I am not going to touch this one- the more I do, the more I realize I have no idea what is going on.

Let me continue with the textures.

Edit: I will download the crash tester tonight and run it for ya.

Edit 2: Dudes, I need to do these textures! Screencaps of wiremeshes plz

Ooops!
Left out the Cruisers's from the solararch.ini, and about the rtc_shiparch.ini.
Try CTD Finder2 on the ftp site.

Hey Warzog,

I noticed that while you have renamed all the original FL systems to correspond to the Gemini Sector names, but when you enter a new system, in the upper left corner of the screen comes the text that gives the system name and that's still giving the original system names (eg New York instead of New Detroit). Are you planning to change that? Same goes for the NPC's in bars and such, when you hover over them, It'll give you the original faction names (eg. Liberty Security Force or Navy instead of Confed). And also when you go to the navmap and hit the baselist, that will give the original bases and systems too.

So I'm not sure if you are aware of those text differences with what you are trying to do, but I have a program that I can use to change all that in the dll files for instance (the program is called PE Explorer). I'm talking about NamesResources.dll, infocards.dll and files such as mbases.ini and such. I'm talking about a time consuming process, but if you want, I'll take a look at it and see if I can change some or all of it.

Let me know.

PS. Excellent job on the Mod so far..... Of course I'm not going to say anything specific, but the amount of detail in the Mod is stunning! Great work and keep it up!

I've been wanting to change the names, just haven't found a way.
If you can do it, sure.
I'll look up that program, and see if I can get into it.

And...
Glad you like it!

Well, the program costs about 200 bucks

In any case, I'll take a look at the nameresources.dll, offerbriberesources.dll, infocards.dll and mbases.ini If there are more that need editing, I'll find out and take a look at that too.

I'll keep you updated.

PS. you might want to send me a list of things I need to know to make changes. Such as the original FL system names for each Gemini Sector system, the original faction for each new faction etc.

EDIT: OK, I found what I was looking for. I'm able to rename all the original system names into the Gemini ones (even those that show up in the story missions). I also got that working in the base list and I found a way to enter and change pretty much any text in the game. For instance I changed the 'loading' message into 'Enter the world of Privateer!' and I also changed a couple of base names and planet names. News items can be changed too, plus NPC names and I've already changed the Menu button names as well. Of course I can change everything if I want. Now I now how to change text, let me know what you want changed and I'll do it. Like I said...pretty much every text string there is in FL can be changed now!

Well...
I downloaded the 30-dy trial version, and I've spent the last 12 hours editing the resources.dll, and I've still got a coupla hours work left on it!

Things to change:
Sirius becomes Gemini

Cardamine to Ultimate

Liberty Navy to Confed, Potter
Liberty Police to Potter Militia
Bretonia Navy to Confed, Humboldt
Bretonia Police to Humboldt Militia
etcetera

Liberty to Potter
Bretonia to Humboldt
Rheinland to Clarke
Kusari to Fariss

Places like Planet Leeds in the Leeds System
Become Planet New Constantinople in the New Constantinople system.
(Use the new system for the Planet too.)

System names are in the Gemini.jpg

LWB becomes Steltek
Except in news, then use Retros

Outcasts and Corsairs become Kilrathi.

Modify the DLL's that came with the mod, first.
As much of that stuff has already been done.
(So, it'll save you some time.)

I'll email what I've got once it's done.
I'm working on stuff I can't do with FL-IDS, or the script.xml
(Which is what you should concentrate on, too!)
Planet names and Tradelanes can be done with FL-IDS, or script, so they're low priority.

Things like System names can't be done, so they are top priority.

BTW-On the Gemini Sector Map, I've left the quadrant names off, for now, because they're in the wrong places.

Well, I'll await for your update on the name changes as to how far you have come (you've spend 12 hours already you say and it wouldn't be helpful if we are changing the same data). Then I'll work on what's left or you could give me all that still needs to be done and we'll split it in half or something.

System names can be done in the nameresources.dll
Planet names and tradelanes are indeed easy to change, but so is every text string in the game when you use PE Eplorer....it's only time consuming!. NPC's can easily be renamed as well as news items and such. BTW, the text for news items is in resources.dll and things like the 'loading' screen and menu buttons are in there as well. So you can change that as you please. If you open a dll with PE Eplorer, select the entire 'string' folder, press CTRL - F and search for the word you are looking for, like 'Liberty Navy' or 'Manhattan' and you'll find it. Change it and press CTRL - F and the word should still be in there, so hit search again and it'll go to the next one. Work your way through the data that way. Like that it's way more easy to find things and to easily edit them in the dll files. As you've already seen, the amount of text in the dll files is enormous! Maybe you already knew all this stuff, but just in case

PS. if you run the Mod through FL Data Storm, there are a couple of errors. Most of them are not important (like the No Hull errors), but in the beginning there are a couple and I've checked them out. There are double entries in the system files BR01 and IW04 and a couple more. Why don't you run FL Data Storm yourself to see it.

I also found something else. When you don't talk to Juni to enter the story missions, but just launch from Planet Manhattan to play it OpenSP, then I noticed I don't see any NPC's in space!? Not a single NPC! Have you noticed that as well?

Eraser:

I've done the search bit before, and I end up missing things.
Like misspellings, abreviations, or names/things I'd forgot about, etc.
So, I'm going through the DLL's line-by-line.

And I've got an error using PE Explorer when I tried editing "nameresources.dll" can't/won't display the system names that I changed.

I can't run FL Data Storm-it messes up my O.S.
If you could send me an error report it would help a bunch.

I guess, when I changed Freeport 7, I deactivated the NPC's, a simple fix.
Sooo...
In the M01A.ini:

change:
[Trigger
nickname = play_sad_music
system = FP7_system
Cnd_Timer = 5.500000
Act_PlayMusic = none, none, none, music_solemn_and_grave, 0.100000
Act_ActTrig = turn_off_music_solemn

to:
[Trigger
nickname = play_sad_music
system = FP7_system
Cnd_Timer = 5.500000
Act_RandomPop = true
Act_PlayMusic = none, none, none, music_solemn_and_grave, 0.100000
Act_ActTrig = turn_off_music_solemn

That will reactivate them.

Update:
About half-way through editing nameresources.dll
Added News, and People, to the new bases.
Going to dim the systems next.
Added the new Banshee.
Fixed all of the errors Eraser found.
Discovered that I'd forgotten to remove the "Rumors" & "Know Abouts" on the various jumpholes.
(I've removed all of them just to save time, besides they're all visible now anyway.)
Renamed several hardpoints in the equipment room.
IE:
Gun/Missiles are just Guns now.
Torpedo & Cruise Disruptors are just Missiles now.
Countermeasures is now Decoy.
Thrusters are now Afterburners.

I'm going to bed!
(Just pulled another 24hr tour of Gemini!!!)

Update:
Still working on the nameresources.dll file.
Next up will be to rework the factions on & of each base to match their quadrant.
Along with matching each system's factions to their quadrants.
The Liberty systems will stay pretty much as they are.
As will the Kusari systems.
The Bretonian systems are all over the place.
And Rheinland has a couple over in Fariss.
The new systems were all done as Bretonian, and most will need changing.
The Border Worlds & Edge Worlds are piecemeal.

Update:
Finished the DLL updates.
Rearranged the factions to match their correct Gemini placements.
And...
Updated the base personnel to match those.
Also deleted bribes for the Steltek and Kilrathi.

Unfortunately...
You are bound to notice that the same personnel are at several different bases.
Hopefully, they're far enough apart, and random enough, that it shouldn't be to annoying.

Next on the agenda:
Testing & fixing the missions.

"You are bound to notice that the same personnel are at several different bases."

I would just put something in game baout how everyone seems to be following oyui around , maybe a small note in Trent's log ?

It happened again today , three people i had seen on Manhatten and New London just "happened" to be on New Hamburg, they denied it of course but i know they are following me around
