Convince me

This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!

No one is blaming you. We did have to defend DA's decision many a time. Great Flame Wars have been fought over topics that are really off topic. And today, another one took place...here, sadly. Wizard is not pointing fingers at you. No one is. It's very obvious where and who started with the wrong post in your thread. And it's definitely not you.

Here's the basic problem with many of the new people coming here:

Many of you are skeptical about Freelancer. This is understandable. I, too, was a major skeptic and spent much time arguing, for instance, why the game should include the option for joystick, among other things.

Thing is, it's unreasonable for so many of you to come here without having done about as much research as you can, reading many of the previews available, etc., and then demand that we compile all the information for you, or try to show you why your concerns are unjustified. We've done this many times for many people, and more important, we've successfully convinced most or all of the skeptics who've come here, myself included.

Perhaps what we should do is compile a FAQ addressing all the major concerns over Freelancer, but in the meantime, as Freelancer gets closer to launch, many more people are going to come here and start wailing their concerns. As much as I or the rest of us would like to help people out, I'm simply not going to continue doing this, particularly on a per-person basis, and I'm definitely not going to do it for people who get their information wrong and start yelling at us for it (none of us support the exclusion of 3-D cockpits, as Tach pointed out).

Yes, threads do get closed here, and I don't think they always get closed for a good reason. Nevertheless, pining over joystick support has not been well tolerated because, frankly, it just ain't gonna happen. Joystick fanatics represent too small a community, and the game is so close to completion as to make any talk of putting in joystick support futile. If you really need to see some comments about it, search the forums. The most recent thread was especially good in terms of laying down that issue.

But really, the most I can say to anyone who's skeptical of Freelancer is, just keep an open mind. All of us have been waiting a long time to see what DA has come up with, why not have a good (or at least civil) time doing it?

Well if you're talking about the X2 forum I joined that forum at the same time as this one!

Guys, just lay out the facts and discuss or start a new thread.

What is the most amazing about this type of thread, is quite a bit of it is based on looking into a crystal ball. 3 months from now we probable won't be talking about some of these very topics that seem to feel like someone is throwing gasoline on a fire.

We'll all just have to find our own way of dealing with mis-information in the coming weeks. When someone has the oppotunity to play the game and post their "take" on what they've seen, then the facts can be our guide.

Freelancers melting pot of new arrivals and established regulars!!! These sort of mini conflicts are going to happen. Let's just learn to roll with it. Remember, in the end, we all do have one thing in common, interest in Freelancer. Keep it real folks and try to enjoy yourselves a little.

Wow. See what you miss when you work during the day! I do wish I was a student again. Oh, well. I suggest that all read Tachyon's speech. It will help clear this bitter infighting and endless flaming.

I came. I saw. I conquered. And sometimes get conquered.

Hmm, yeah what they said.

Btw, whats wrong with Diablo? It sold tons of copies, it was a great success.
Willing to bet almost everyone in this forum has played it.

Ah, um, that's a good question, and I'm glad you asked it, but I'm afraid we can't talk about that here....

There's a huge misconception that Freelancer = Diablo in space (at least control-wise). People, this is like comparing apples and oranges, to say Freelancer is like Diablo is like saying Diablo is like Quake - it's just not gonna work out

Diablo 2 was great though, but it is nothing like freelancer
