opwnageo : about "joining the dots" to find successive routes..
I forgot to mention that when you have found an interesting trade route with FLC, you can double-click on that line, and it will switch the "origin base" to be the selected "destination base", so you can start looking at which routes will be available once you get there..
And if you don't find anything interesting there, you can "pop" back to the previous origin base by clicking the "<=" button, and choose another route

I really hope you get around to that zooming functionality if possible, the mods I play with, and some others have lots of names for stations clumped together and can't really tell them apart, I mean even if its a 200% zoom or something, and that you can drag around the viewer, that would be cooler.

Forgive me, but, where be the download? Heh

I am glad to see you have included the zoom functionality!
When you have a spare year or so you could get ships and equipment in there too! Heh, joking! Thats only if you want to and have anything resembling a social life while doing it

It's more a trade calculator at the moment in my eyes, and doesn't really come under the heading of freelancer companion, in my eyes a companion would include all the same kind of things that something like datastorm would. But if you do take such a path, please don't use a similiar interface, because to be honest the datastorm one is waaay too cluttered with asthetic icons etc.

Thanks for a great program!

Well, files upload at Lancers Reactor is done through E-mail to the admins.. so files are not immediately available for download
someone from Lancers Reactor needs to review them before putting them in the download section..
I sent the new version to bakedpotato.. so it will be available for you when he has time..

About adding other functionnality (like datastorm), I could do this easily (because i'm already parsing a lot of those ini files) but I'm afraid it might scare mod authors a little too much... (even if they should see FLC as a program that can help them make their mod better)

Well, ok, heres the thing to do I think...

Have a PE or Public Edition version that regular users can use with features of trade viewing, ship and equipment viewing etc etc.

Then have a modders edition where all the features are more geared to helping modders.

How I suggest you could handle the protection of mods against the PE edition, is give mod makers the ability to (with the mod version of the software) create some sort of key or something, and in the PE editions only allow it to open such a mod with said key file, obviously make it encrypted or something.

Thinking about it like that no mod author is going to give out this key to anyone other than mod teams or server guards to help players and give hints maybe. So therefore a mod would be protected from being opened with the PE version if the mod author has created a key for it and distribute it with the key.

You get the general idea, it could be as simple as a password protection, but thats the way I'm thinking, just a suggestion of course

As long as there is a method of security, that just makes it harder for people to figure that stuff out ... other than to create parsers lol, it should be OK.

Wizou, I have tried this tool and I like it a lot.

I run a mod and server and honestly, I love this type of program. Personally I think there is a major difference between this and Datastorm, and that it's important to realize that if you're going to criticize his hard work because it lets people "cheat".

For my mod, I do block Datastorm, because I believe that to be a cheat. This is because that program specifically shows things that I do not want players to find. This is particularly wrecks and secret areas. The rest doesn't bother me at all, and I think it's a great tool as well, but the showing of wrecks and secret areas can spoil the fun for people or allow people to cheat and get things they shouldn't be able to get.

However, this tool only shows trade routes and bases, which is fine in my book. Personally, I agree with those who say that this program will actually improve trading in the game as it will show modders if they've accidentally made a run "too good", which can easily unbalance things. So what if players know the better routes? First, if a modder does their job and puts together a quality mod, then there shouldn't be uber trade runs to begin with, and second, most of the challenge and fun in trading is making the actual run. Especially in mods like mine where the NPCs are smarter and faster, the trading can get pretty darn fun.

Anyways, Wizou, just remember that it's your program, and you don't have to change it for anyone. Do what you want with it, and I'm sure it will turn out to be great.

I already have plans to use it to balance the trade routes in the next version of my mod.

Is there an easy way to select which directory Freelancer is installed to? I noticed I had to select it the first time, and after that it automatically went back to the same one. I want to use it on another directory, but it doesn't allow me to select which one.

Edit: I can manage using registry edits, but it would be nice if it were a regular option when it starts.
