Here you can announce your own Freelancer MOD and find information about the different available packages!

Maybe i'm just being retarded somehow, but for some reason this mod doesn't want to run. When i try to start a new SP game, it CTDs as soon as i click the "New Game" option from the main menu. I've tried it on brand-new installations of Freelancer both with and without the patch/SDK installed. I'm currently running Windows XP SP2.

Can I go ahead and post about 1.2? Wait, why am I asking? I already have decided to do so.

All right, I'll try to recreate the scene as well as possible. I just left the Cambridge -> Planet New London tradelane (I was over New London now) inside a Nomad Intercepter. As I moved across the scene (I was just past Waterloo Station), and out of nowhere, CTD. Just thought you should know of this.

My computer opens up the XML scripts on Netscape and I cant change andything. What should I use, and how should it be saved so it works correctly.

Post Tue Jun 07, 2005 10:26 am

@Mknote:

I was pretty sure I'd squashed all CTDs in this version, but it appears maybe not I'll take a look and see if I can replicate that bug tonight after work, and report back here

@Killer Bunny:

To open the XML scripts, use Notepad or any other plaintext editor (right-click, select "Open With", and then select the editor of your choice). I usually just use Notepad and Advanced Find and Replace (it's a grep parsing tool) to do the work, but it doesn't really matter much. Hope that helps

thanks for the help, but ill have to copy and paste from netscape opening it because i run Windows 98 and can chosse open with.

@ k**bunnie
you can change that in your (Windows-)Explorer-Folder Options. there you choose the file type and you can edit the programm to open them by default.

for huge ships like battleships try to make it so they donts dock but moor to the stations and planets. I have been told that the Evolutions mod allows the ships to moor, but I haven't downloaded the mod so you might want to check that out. In notepad how would I save the file so it becomes a .XML not .doc or .txt, and to make a new ship design I can just use Illustrator right or do I have to use something else.

Thanks for the help zazie and Argh

I very deliberately switched everything over to Berth, not Moors, and enabled all Moor DockMounts as Berths. This is an experiment with the game engine, and thus far I think it works better.

So far as I am aware, nobody's fixed the bugs in the FL engine that prevent players from making use of Moors properly. Basically, if you try to Moor and don't hit ESC as the docking sequence begins, then you'll just sit there.

In short... this isn't a bug, it's a feature. Sorry you don't like it, but it was put into this build for very good reasons... such as letting players drive Capital Ships...

Now that I've Finnaly read through all the postings here I wonder, What is a CTD? I'll probably feel like an idiot when a reply is posted.

Now that I can go in and deal with modding better, because I printed the manuals out I was looking at 001_Weaponmoddb and wondering why each weapon type appeared twice each with defferent stats. Is one the origianal values from the Game and the other yours?

From what I've read, just to make sure I'm making correct ussuptions all ships can use all weapons and shields and you can moddify the energy in your ship by changeing the power generator. So I could take a Starflier whatever and mount Nomad Energy Cannons and TDC's on it and go after stuff.

CTD = "Crash to Desktop". It means there's a pretty nasty bug left in the code. I haven't had time to track it down yet.

Odd question if I want to change the price of a ship where should I do that.
Also my biggest problem with modding will be that I have no coding expierence what so ever. I was trying to teach myself Perl but got caught up in school work, but since schools over I can now learn to code and mod in Freelancer.

Re-Asking: When I design a ship what do I use to make the ship's physical design i.e. what it looks like.

Also Was Playing SP from the beginning and when I launched from Pittsburg King wanst there am I the only one who expirenced this.

I'm still waitin for a response to my post regarding the CTD when trying to run the SP version of this mod (version 1.2). As i said before, i've tried it with brand new installations of FL, both with and without the patch and/or SDK installed. If anyone has any suggestions, i'd really appreciate it. I'm very anxious to give this mod a try. Thanx.

I'm very noobish in installing mods and stuff,so this may be a stupid question lol
argh,you're telling WHAT the mod does,but not how to install it :s
i can't get it in my mods list in FLMM

Post Thu Jun 09, 2005 4:00 pm

@Soulseeker:

I just reinstalled everything in my FL directory to clean, 1.0 release FL, installed FL SDK 1.5, deleted the Autosave in FLMM, and ran a New Game.

No CTD on my end. I'm running XP SP2 as well, so I dunno what to tell you, 'cept my best guess is that your installation's corrupt and you may want to download it again. If you'd be so kind... go get FLSpit (it's a utility for debugging FL mods) and run it right after re-creating the CTD event... and email me the results, they may help me pinpoint this and fix the issue (if there is one that's effecting more than one user).

@Bunny:

Um... there is a whole Forum section dedicated to such questions... but the short answer is that you need to look up the price of a ship Package entry, and change the price there. All of the new ships in the mod (including the capships and other stuff that have been put in with XML scripts) have [Good entries in the scripts that control their prices. Take a look at any of the example scripts to get an idea what I'm talking about, and go read the Tutorials and Newbie Questions threads

@Zessebel:

Read the documentation

Ok, I'll be nice... basically, you need to install FLMM (Freelancer Mod Manager, 1.31)... download and install the Freelancer SDK 1.3 (or 1.5)... and then install the mod. If the mod's opening up with Winzip or something else is kooky, then you're going to have to open it with FLMM manually, by right-clicking on the mod file and selecting "Open With" and then selecting Freelancer Mod Manager from the list.

Lastly, I've now played through the 2 takeoffs with King in the early game, and have not seen the errors you're reporting. Sorry, I think your installation of FL needs to be cleaned out. This happens when you've been playing a lot've mods, and occasionally have had trouble with them- they leave a lot of junk in your FL directories, which can cause various odd issues.

BTW... if you reinstall FL... delete the entire Freelancer directory (default installation path is c:\program files\microsoft games\freelancer\...), and then reinstall.

I keep a "fresh" install in a ZIP file and just unzip it whenever I want to "clean house", but I'm a coder, and kind've expect horrible things to happen on a regular basis
