The Monkeys 1.18

Hi, I'm Black Eagle!

I'm the creator of the Monkeys Mod and finished my new version. It should soon be available for download here on lancersreactor!

The aim of the Monkeys Mod is to add new things to FL (factions, systems, ships), which really fit into the existing FL world. I don't want to change FL, because I think it is a great game. However after playing it several times I could not encounter new things and also found some unfinished parts in the game. Therefore I created the mod, which adds four new factions to the game:

The Monkeys, the Robots, the Nomads, and the Order.

Of course all these factions were partly in the original game, but only during the story or on one planet (Planet Primus and Gammu). So I made them realy factions, with their own ships, bases, systems, history, etc.!

In this forum you can post your thoughts about version 1.18 and also any idea, you would like to see in the next version. I'm not very fast in modding, but I'm working on the mod as often as possible and will try to add all of your ideas, which in my opinion are good.

Some important things:

- Please read the readme, it is not so long and has some useful information in it.
- If you get problems with the mod (cannot activate, bugs, etc,) you can ask here, but there are some things, you have to care about:
- The mod is not compatible with any other mod, except of the "OpenSP for the Monkeys Mod" I released earlier!
- Please use the FL Modmanager 1.3 for activating the mod!
- Before you activate the mod, please deactivate all other mods and restore backups!
- If you still can't activate it, please do a fresh install of FL and the SDK and then activate the mod!

That's it! I hope you enjoy playing the mod and it would be nice to see you here in this thread! I'm not at home for three weeks now, but I think I will be able to visit the forums anyway. But it might take some days until I respond!

To all from the old thread: I hope to see you here again! Try the new version and say what you think about it. Please do also tell me if there is something you do not like, so that I can improve it. The commodity market is only a basic one (look in the old thread for details), but I will fix this with a patch as soon as possible!

I can't play this mod because my comp is acting goddamned stupid, I can't install FL because it says some crap like "We have a problem installing C:\Program Files\Mircosoft Games\Freelancer\DATA\AUDIO\MUSIC\music_bar_br05\ ,please try again later" hehehe bump

what server running it i have lock for ever and not a 1 that i seen


BTW i do need to be running V1.0 FL i have not look in any of the red V to see if a server is running it just that i don't see how it can but who knows as i was told ALL MODS ONLY RUN ON V1.0

Hi guys and thanks!

Culver: The mod is version 1.0, so you should be right! I'm affraid that I do not have a server, which is running the mod, but Strail is running a server with the Void mod, which is based on the Monkeys and has some other additions (e.g.: Real space by Louva Deus). I think he will also update his mod to the new version, but maybe he should wait for the patch with the finished commodity market. So until this you have to play the mod in SP, or you have to make your own server. I would be very grateful if someone would set up a server with the mod.

To all the others. Do you like the new things, or is there anything unrealistic or so (Please report any bugs). And do you think the basic commodity market is okay so that I can just finish it, or do I have to change something (e.g.: "maybe it would be more realistic, if tobacco was not sold by the Blood Dragons, but by the Red Hessians." Or something like this)! Many thanks for helping me to improve the mod, with answering these questions.

I have to say. that I will not be able to come here very often during the next three weeks (I'm on an exchange program and not at home). So I might need some time to answer your questions!

But now, go play it!!!

Hay Black Eagle I think The Monkeys 1.18 is great I love the new commodities and ejected pilot triad. I was really looking forward to exploring the new systems but I can’t get past the sp story where Juni and Trent split up for Cambridge and Leeds. When I enter the Magellan/ Leeds jump hole I get the jump hole graphic and it starts to load then the game disappears as if I had exited the game. Any helpful ideas would be nice.

HI BLACK EAGLE, GREAT MOD MONKEYS 1.18 BUT I HAVE SAME PROB,GAME OK UNTIL WE SPLIT AT CAMBRIDGE ,LEEDS I HAVE TO GO TROUGH LEEDS WORM HOLE BUT THE GAME THEN SHUTS DOWN.I HAVE TRIED THE GAME WITHOUT MOD AND IT WORKS PERFECT,UPDATED ALL VIDEO CARD DRIVERS ECT BUT STILL SAME PROB?? U ANY IDEAS ON WHAT THE PROB IS??BUT FOR WHAT I HAVE PLAYED SO FAR.......BRILL,NEW LIFE TO THE GAME..

The above problem is confirmed. Confirmed to be originating from The Monkeys Mod as well. SP was played through normally without prior saves, up until leaving Mactan to go to the Leeds Jumphole after fighting off 4 Rheinland Miltary Valkyries. Upon docking with the Jumphole, the sequence begins and instead of reaching the end the game gets dumped to the desktop with the music (and on going jumphole sounds) continuing. Hope this helps clarify things.

Hi this is Vader{MERCS},Black Eagle, the mod ROCKS!!!( how the hell do you do this stuff !? )this is exactly how the game ' Freelancer ' should have been made!!! One thing though, i seem to be experiencing the same problem as these guys. I started a new game of V 1 .18 and also using ' Brown haired Trent 'mod( man, i thought saving Beta 4's sorry ass was hard enough before , now hes even more sorry ass ! lol ) .Please help me cause i want to fly my ship into some ' Class 10 Outcast-pilot escape pods ' at Fully injected Cruise-speed,( I also want to eject some into those ' Death-zones ' and also launch some Torpedoes or Seeker mines at them)

I'm having the same problem as everyone else. I really love this mod and want to play through until the end. Is there any way I can fix this? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me

Hi everyone!

I'm very sorry that this bug is in the mod and that I could not sort it out earlier, but as you may know, I'm not at home until next week.

However I was able to download the mod and I found the problem. The patch is already sent to backedpotato and he will surely bring it on the site very soon!

The patch fixes the bug, that the Leeds system was not accessible and also some spelling mistakes in some infocards.

Please be sure to read the instructions on how to activate the patch. They will be on the download site. Again, I'm very sorry for this, but I really was in a hurry, when releasing the mod and therefore missed this bug. I hope you will now like the patched mod!!!

BIGMAG: The patrol files are all fully working. There is no mistake in them. I spent some days on getting familiar with patrols, but now I think it isn't that hard if you go through it several times to check for spelling errors. The bug was in the leeds system file and it was a simple spelling mistake!!!

About your starting reputation: You have to change this in the mpnewcharacter.fl (for Multiplayer) and in the newcharacter.fl (for SP. You need the SimpleSaveEditor for decoding of the last file). There you can change your starting reputation to any faction.
For other changes on reputation you have to modify initialworld.ini and empathy.ini! Please try to find some tutorials (there are many here on TLR), as I do not have so much time now!

For your problem with starting in Omicron Major: This should not appear, unless you have any other mod active (except of OpenSP for the Monkeys) or use old savegames!

AGAIN: The Mod is only compatible with "OpenSP for the Monkeys", which is downloadable from TLR. Do not activate any other mod, as I cannot guarantee it will work!!!
If you have installed the SDK and the Unofficial SP Patch 1.4 and activated only the Monkeys (and maybe OpenSP for the Monkeys) everything should now be fine with the patched version!

If you find any other mods, or have ideas or suggestions, just post them here! And of course many thanks for telling me about this bug, so that I could sort it out.

But now, just play the mod and have fun!!!

Edit: One other thing. I was offere a membership of Frostworks.com, but I'm not sure if I should aggree with this. Of course it would be nice to have my own Forum for the mod and I think I would not have a disadvantage. But I always like to be independent and I'm also not quite sure about Frostworks because some of their other mods. Some of them were announced many times, but were never finished and Level 2 is in my opinion not going so well (I'm not sure about this, as I do not know so much about this). I do not want to offend anyone from Frostworks, but I'm just not sure about this. A membership would give me an own forum for my mod on the Frostworks site and some other things.
What do you think about this offer? Thanks for your suggestions!

Hi this is Vader{MERCS},hows it going? cool?...cool.Thanks for the speedy reply to our posts.I have TOTAL CONFIDENCE that you will have this minor problem sorted out and expect no problems with the patch.I have one question though, is there a 'Monkeys' or 'Robot' Graviton energy shield ( Class 10 External Hardware ) that is powerful enough to repel the 'Nomads' energy Blaster cannons laser-bolts that is sold at a Class 2 Level, enabling freelancers to equip it to any Space-ship they want ?

Still dreaming of crashing into those Outcast escape-pods at Cruise speed and terrorizing Planet Malta, Vader{MERCS}
