Battletech Mod

hello
i am proposing to do a Battletech Mod


now, i know that Battletech was originally made as a GROUND/planet based game, but at the stage it currently is at (not taking into account Mechwarrior Dark age) there are now Warships and the like in existence. what i am working on is:

A shippack:
this will add numerous ships from the Battletech Universe, including -
Merchant Class Jumpships
Invader Class Jumpships
Cameron Class Battle s
Kyushu Class Warships
Black Lion class Battle Cruisers
Sovetskii Soyuz
Monolith class Jumpships

Broadsword Class Dropships
Union-C class Dropships
Leopard class dropships
Overlod Class Dropships
Excalibur Class Dropships
NL-42 Battle Taxis
Fortress Class Dropships
Lung Wanf Class Dropships

Lucifer Aerospace Fighters
Sparrowhawk Aerospace Fighters
Chippewa Aerospace Fighters
Transit Fighters
Shilone Aerospace Fighters

and then followed with a mix of all the ships and a few new systems based on the battletech universe (e.g jumpholes lead to the sun or pirate jump points)

from the ships, the Invader and the Merchant class Jumpships are both DONE, but i dont know how to put screenshots here?......
i am currently working on the Fighters and better Textures for the Jumpships.

anyone have any suggestions on what else to add? want to help? (good at textures )

Sadly, I am of little help when it comes to modding. I didn;t get into MechWarrior until 3 or 4 years ago, and that was through MW4 Vengeance; so, another woe for me is that I don't know a whole lot about the rich and vast BattleTech universe.
But I will say that I love MW, and this mod sounds pretty neat! So congratualations on your current progress, and good luck on the rest of this. I can give it a go to help find any little bugs, if you need someone to do that when it's ready

Hello
(in case you havnt guessed, i've 'changed' my name to Velation instead of Camper)

anyways, i submitted my first Finished Ship, the Clan Avar Aerospace Fighter (look at the LR news!).
I am working on another Two fighters atm, as well as a 'Jumpship', but....i have no ida how to put pictures on the forums....
but anyways, what do you think of it?

By the way, is it possible to put one of those LAM´s into the game ( playable when it´s " transformed " to the Aero-fighter - mode )???

Its sounds like a cool idea to have a BattleTech Mod for Freelancer.

If I may suggest to use the McKenna or the Leviathan for the Orders flagship...I think it would be quite cool to have see them in battle.

But first question should be for what timeline are you aming...from the list it could be during the Clan IS War or after it.

Beside the fighter will you have people fly some Union or Overlords as transporters...or some other Dropships...like the Ghostbear Titan-class Dropship.
Will we see some of the big cruise missiles (Barracuda) that are used by warships like the McKenna or Conquerer Battlecruiser?


Oh just a small sidenote
I would think about reworking the textures of the Avar Aerospace fighter...make them look more metal like...the way the clans mostly have there Mechs and other war equipment...unpainted..just with the unit ensignia.
Other thing is...maybe the FreeSpace2 engine is more suitable for a BattleTech mod then FreeLancer. With the new editions to the engine..special the HTL code it has a more realistic look, what I would prefer for a BT TC and you can do your own campains.
I don't know about FreeLancer if its possible to do your own Missions.

This is the style/feeling/mood I would like to see for a BT TC Mod

(Pic is from the Wing Commander Mod for FreeSpace2)...but you are doing this mod and I won't tell you what to do...decide yourself.
Ether way I will watch your progress and hope that you achive what you want.

You should get into contact with the Battletech mod for HW, they have a bunch of ships in easily-convertible formats.

ok, first off, i would LOVE to do a mod for Freespace2, except, i dont own it! (hehe) so i guess that wont happen for a while, but still...............

The mod will be in two forms
a)Replace the original systems For freelancer with Important or rememerable systems from the Battletech Universe during the time when The Star League is reborn, and Victor Davion invades The Clan Smoke Jaguar Occupation zone.
and replace all the Freelancer ships, factions etc with battletech ones
(B will probably come first)

There will be the
Five Inner Sphere Houses:
Davion = Federated Commonwealth
Stiener = Lyran Alliance
Marik = Free Worlds League
Liao = Capellan Confederation
Kurita = Draconis Combine

a Few minor 'Houses'':
St Ives Compact
FRR
OA
etc

Four (**mabye Six**) clans:
Clan Wolf
Clan Smoke Jaguar
Clan Ghost Bear
Clan Jade Falcon
**Clan Steel Viper**
**Clan Nova Cat**

Comstar
**Word of Blake**
Mercanaries
Pirates/Clan version (cant remember the name atm)

Each 'group' will have its own unique ships, With clan tech, Innersphere tech, Star League era Tech, etc, and each will have its own Colour Scheme/Texture

Pilotable ships will include:
Aerospace fighters
Dropships
Warships (very very very ....etc..... expensive)

Commodities i have thought of so far:
Battlemechs (obviously)
Armour
Ammo/spare parts
Metals
Other Ground forces
Aerospace Fighters
Weapons
VIPS
'Loot'
Trading Goods

All the commodities will only be able to be carried by Dropships (so when you start, your doing missions ) Most Goods will also have a.........cant remember what its called atm, but liek Alien Organisms, where you have a time limit before they 'perish' to represent failure to deliver on time, loss of income etc

i will also replace many weapons to make new ones, and hopefully be able to put in Warship weapons liek the Barracuda Missile etc!!!

any other suggestions, please post (will put in Screenies of three more ships soon)

About getting a copy of Freespace2....as far as I know its sold again in the USA.
Oh an beside that...you don't need the full version of FS2 anymore ^_^
Mod like Wing Commander Saga can be played with the demo of FS2 !

Sure for mission editing you still need FRED2...but if you find someone who would do mission for you, you won't even need that.
So all you need is the Demo, the tools and you are nearly ready to go ^_^


About flying Warship...well if you look at the buildingcost of these ship only Warlords (very very rich Freelancers) should be able to build them.
If you could manage it to equipet every ship with its original BT weapon loadout...except Omnis that can have different weapon systems it would be cool. Also doing the stats like armor and speed like in BT would give everything a better feeling...or simple said....please stay as close as possible to the Technical Readouts.

What if you merge Freelancer with 3D First person shooters, and games like GTA, Driver, etc and RTS games?
You get:
[LIST
[*First person mode - 3D shooter in space, in vessels and on planets

[LIST=I
[*In unreal there was a level inside a spaceship. shouldnt it be cool to be abled to walk and shoot in your own spaceship?
[*Pirates can enter your vessel and walk in to steal cargo or kill the people inside to hijack it.
[*Walk on planets a la GTA, Driver, Maffia, Unreal and other.
[*Be abled to enter a vessel with multiple players depending on the capacity of it and fight/defend together (like vehicles in Unreal T2004 and Halo)
[*Planets are devided into regions (like GTA Vice City) with roads, buildings, hotspots, things to steal/buy, sub games, etc.
[*Planets skys are two sections one sky like in the normal vice city and higher sky for entering space with visible things in the universe.
[*Be abled to blow up a planet, big ships and create supernovas if you are one of the big people in the universe.
[*Some kind of wrecking and rebuild system so you can blow up a planet or other things and it will rebuild in a time.
[*Be your own boss/faction
[*Good trade system: prices lower if goods are plenty and higher when shortage.
[*Places like miningfields should rebuild slow. So if many are mining there the stock will dissapear, and reapear when there arent many.
[*Small Factions should have more comp players than big ones to even things out.
[*More kinds of weapons, shields, etc. And more unique eqiupment. It must be so that there is always better equipment. Not like in freelancer that a help file on the internet points out all the best stuff. Even if you have a superb mass destruction weapon there must be a non weapon/equipment that can counter it.
[* A good HELP! system. When your in trouble you can ask assistance, even from nearby systems. And your Faction/Other will help you out a little
[*Possibillity of adding space to existing space.
[*Possibility of changin the looks of your worldpart/ships when your the owner (Special skins, High tech world - Rough Non tech world (Star Trek example: Borg world, Klingon world))
[*The ammount and mixture of trading goods gives a planet/faction the possibility to create new things like ships, etc.
[*Your ship or other could be fortified by better metals than the original metal. Or other raw materials (Example: Diamonds for inside weapons)
[*More business than in the original freelancer game: Freelancers, Researchers, Defenders on a planet, etc.
[*Building in space and on planets a la RTS style. Possibilitys created by the amount and mixture of materials on the (nearby)planet/base

If you want an BT FPS then play Mechwarrior....this is about a Battlespace.

I already said that my ideas are probably not usable for u. But i named them anyway.
And i do not want a First person shooter.
I want a complete world where you can walk on the planets and in ships.
So since freelancer is a shooter it would be obvious that you should be abled to shoot when walking.

And be honest, a game whit my ideas involved would probably be great.
Freelancer is already a working world, i just liked it if they expand it like this.
In fact everything could be combined in a game like this.

Car races on a planet, puzzles(things to find out) on planets, more places then 1 city (like now in FL) it must be also 3D like the universe,
Everything can be destroyed, etc.

You must admit that its a good idea. And i think its reachable with today's computers. I only think you need a big HD for it. Especially when its build to be expanded all the time.

Maybe the client computers can handle it. But you'd need massive (and expensive) servers for even a small number of players and on top of that a huge connection.

Sorry man, but I think it's gonna be a few years until we're gonna see a good game that can also handle multiplayer with those features
