Freelancer 2 MOD (not any more)

Well this has been announced a while ago, but I thought I should start a new thread to make life easier. This is basically the general idea of what will be/is in the MOD:

FACTIONS:

FUP (Federation of United Planets): Dedicated to the promotion of peace

Zoners: Have now vanished, but some say they are still around

Kusari/GMG: Have joined forces and have become quite seperate from the rest of Sirius

NEW SYSTEMS:

Betas:
An area between kusari and rheinland which is contested by both because of the gas found there
Taus:
More Tau systems have been colonized by the Outcasts who have made these their homes
Thetas:
A new area, south of the main part of sirius, no-one is sure what goes on here...
Geneva:
A new system set up by the FUP to promote peace

NEW SHIPS:

Rheiland:
Emperor Diplomacy Cruiser (Converted Battleship class)
Panzer Carrier (Carrier Class)

Liberty:
Liberator Cruiser (Super Battleship class)
Oneonta Troop Deployment Cruiser (Ground Assult class)

Britonea:
Stonehedge Carrier (Carrier class)

Draconji Experiemental Assult Fighter (Prototype class)

NEW CLASS SYSTEM:

Super Battleship
- only 1; stationed in New York
- bigger battleship (2x as big as normal one)
- lots of firepower (2x as much)
- only Liberty has the resources to make it

Ground Assult Cruiser
- player can't get
- used to take planets

Cruiser
- a cruiser...

Carrier
- hopefully launches fighters (don't know if this is possible)

Prototype
- what it says...

Super Heavy Fighter
- think uber powerful
- slow as a sloth

Bomber
- used to kill capital ships
- lots of torpedos, few anti-fighter weapons

Raider
- used to raid convoys
- lots of cargo space
- can disable transports/trains fast, loot, then leave
- not meant to kill fighters or capital ships

Communication's Vessel
- for those times when the fleet needs to hear orders; but can't due to disturbance
ie: in a nebula
- not avaliable to players

Troop Transport
- what it says...

Anti-Fighter Cruiser
- good vs Fighters
- horrible vs anything else

Mine Layer
- used to create minefields
- lots of mine droppers

Scout ship
- very very very fast
- little firepower

This is only a taster, there is more to come...

It's a great idea, but I think the technological limits hard coded into the game might stop some of it working, like the ship that deploys fighters. You might be able to make one that deploys AI, but player ships will be hard to accomodate

There is no known way to deploy AI's ships, if the "mothership" is moving. It need's to be a base then.

One thing you could try, dunno if someone else has attempted it. Example: look at regular bases. Ships come and go all the time. All you need to do in theory is make the actualy base object mobile. Although the game would screw up if you jumped with one of these ships

This all sounds very interesting, but what purpose do all these new ships serve?
Is there actually going to be a reason for buying say, a troop transport instead of just a VHF?

Perhaps if you have a troop transport you can forcefully dock on the station and take it over. Then it would be changed to your faction

I doubt that, considering the fact that it would be near physically impossible to do.

Not all these ships will necessarily be player ships, or even in the MOD, it's effectively an ideas list. Some of them may not be possible to implement

Things such as the Communications Cruiser and Troop Deployment ships, will not be playable.

What purposes the ships serve? Wich off them? Tell me wich, and i'll tell you the purpose.

The Carriers are more mobile bases. They will have hangars, just as eye-candy, and will be moving around in-system.
