Black Label - Privateer in Sirus - and All Good - mods - Com

Hi there.

Just thought I would let you all know about the Black Label Mod and what the intentions for it are. Basically it will be a best of the best mod, containing the best models for ships, bases and equipment currently around. To date it only contains two ships (the slipstream and the starviper) and one weapon (the chain gun) but if more high quality mods come out I will be happy to add them.

First of all special thanks go to APS Shipworks, FireBase and Harrier for all kindly granting permission for the use of their models in the mod. Thanks guys!

Second, although it is a little harder than just offering the ships for sale I thought it important to integrate the ships into the NPC factions as part of the mod. If the models are high quality, so should the mod itself be. You can actually fight against both these ships in the game, the slipstream belonging to the Bundschuh and the starviper belonging to the Farmers Alliance. Any new ships will also be assigned to factions.

If you find defects or faults, have general comments (good or bad) or feel you should bring another mod to my attention for potential inclusion in this mod please feel free to post here. That's it for now.

The Slipstream and the Starviper are the two best mod ships I've seen for Freelancer. Both are very well designed, fun to fly and fit well withing the Freelancer universe. They don't tip the balance too greatly one way or the other.
I would like to know if you've also improved the NPC's AI in the game, ie., better piloting and use of nanobots and shield bats? So far the only mods that have been worth playing at all for me are those where the NPC's ships aren't total pushovers. For instance, when the NPC's are in standard mode, ie., unmodded, I could reduce 3-4 enemy ships shields in one pass if they are packed tight when I charge them, thus allowing to easily take em down with a combination of lasers and missles. Too easy! It would be a shame to fly vs such fine ships as the Starviper and Slipstream if their pilots are idiots.

Who's tested this mod? Is it any good and will their be a server avaibable?

And will it be compatable with other mods such as Rebalance? I'm downloading now but its taking forever with ma 56K.

What's with komodo dragon? I'm playing Freelancer from the start (again), and taking blood dragon missions... Kursari Police is using these mod ships and they are indestructible! Shields are working fine, but no weapon can damage hull. Where's the bug/script error? Anyway, now I have to delete komodo dragon.

may i ask what the "junimobile" is?

Not sure what is happening with the Komodo, I will have to look into this. I thought that it should be fine, it has a sur file so you should be able to kill it. I will see if there is something I can do for the next release.

The 'Junimobile' is probably better referred to as the Liberty Defender Mk II. It is the ship Juni files in the single player missions.

Just a quick update to all that have posted about mod compatibility and test servers.

1) there is no plan at the moment to implement a Black Label server of which I am aware. I am certainly not planning to do it, but if others would like to I would be happy to help them where I can.

2) At this time, I am not planning to make any changes to the mod to increase compatibility. it is simply too hard. I am working on this in my spare time, and so are other mod groups who are also making changes to their own mods. The point is that without a central authority dictating who can alter what, it becomes quite difficult to constantly alter mods to make them compatible with other mods.

I should point out here that I am NOT advocating the creation of any such central authority, I am just using it to demonstrate my point. Personally, I would just try it, sometimes (rarely) FLMM gets compatibility a little wrong, so give it a shot and see what happens.

Acid, sometimes using a FL .sur file that seems to "fit" your custom model doesn't always mean it will work. For some reason, some of the .sur files just don't work with some custom ships...Try a different one if the one you are currently using isn't working right (i.e. lasers shooting through the ship instead of hitting it, etc...)

Anyway, hope it helps...

Greetz to OGY. The bug in the Komodo dragon is now fixed and will be released in the 1.51 version of the mod. Just thought you would all like to know.

I'll stick to the forums instead of pestering you with email. I would like to make a recommendation for the mod. Baene's Ship Pack version 1.0. It has a number of nice original ships that fit in very well in to the Freelancer universe. The other suggestion is Real Space 2.2 with the Liberty upgrade. This adds realism to the game (lets face it, space is not so well lit) and gives Liberty comparable ships to the other houses (and makes them less of a push-over).

One complaint, having the Anubis available outside of the story line is nice but it should be hidden, make the people search for it. Also, the Anubis model is capable of another weapon mount and 3 thrusters. Let’s make it the NASTY piece of work it was intended to be.
