Alternate Universe Strategy Mod
FREELANCER
ALTERNATE UNIVERSE MOD
OVERVIEW AND CONCEPT
Premise
The basic idea for the mod is Freelancer meets Civilization, with a little Risk thrown in. The mod will be played in two interfaces. The tactical interface will be the actual Freelancer game with extensive modifications. The strategic interface will be sector maps in the nations' individual forums along with information about industrial production, scientific research and military strength.
The mod is set in the time just after the sleeper ships arrive in Sirius. For the purposes of this mod we will assume all the sleeper ships arrive at roughly the same time. The map of Sirius will be completely reworked to provide more strategic possibilities and equal opportunities for growth. Each nation will start roughly equidistant from each other in their home systems with very few bases. It will be up to the nations to explore and expand in the manner they see fit. A nation can focus on military, scientific or industrial development, or a balance of all three.
Obviously, this is a very ambitious and original mod idea. We will not make these concepts work as an integrated game system without much hard work and careful planning. It will take a top-notch team of modders and coders combined with strong leadership to make this mod a reality. The key, I think, is to measure twice and cut once - to waste as little energy and time as possible by carefully planning and thinking ahead. Properly executed, this mod would be nothing less than a revolution in the Freelancer community and, more important, a hell of a lot of fun to play. There is far too much in the basic concept idea to really do it justice here. I tried posting the whole document, but it wouldn't post because of it's size.
