A new Coalition Universe (in progress)

Now I've been hearing about people thinking about a Jump gate to a new freelancer universe. It may sound hard but to be fair this forum topic can make it seem alot easier. Now heres what you do:

Gather a group of people, eg. Porsce and Gisgard use and put togeter all their mods.Copy the freelancer systems. There will be a minefeild about 20K long and at the end of it there will be a Jump Gate. This gate will lead to a place called "SIRIUS SYSTEM -> COALITION SYSTEMS".There will be 3 new factions,"COALITION NAVY","COALITION POLICE" and "COALITION TRADERS" but there will be a secret faction in the Moon of earth, the "EARTH SURVIVORS".

My point is all you have to do is make 4 Factions, 20 new ships and rename everything in the sirius system (apart from the commodities).

P.S please make this "Sticky"

Oh,sworn enemy to the United Kingdom I will not care if you completely destroy me! But can you kill me after i have my fag.

You're going to have to forgive me, but I think this idea is typical of the 'let's slap a bunch of shiny things together and it's GOTTA BE COOL' mindset that seems to be pervading a lot of mods. Always has, always will, but . . .

Don't even start me on Porsche's mods, the guy has no concept of game balance and his Star Wars ships have some of the stupidest stats I've ever seen. He made them look good, then . . . bah. But they're shiny, they must rock!

As to the specifics of this idea . . . Coalition police? Coalition navy? Coalition traders? Be serious. Earth survivors?

Do you have any concept of a storyline? The Starlancer/Freelancer storyline? (Outside of what the Freelancer intro gives you, of course).

If you want to add another sector of systems onto the Freelancer universe . . . you need to come up with some convincing and INTELLIGENT background for them. You need to come up with a good damn reason for things to be placed where they are. And copy/pasting the original systems and renaming them . . . for the love of God, that's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

Sure. All you need to do is make 4 factions, 20 new ships, and rename everything in the sirius sector . . .

. . . and if you get anything even halfway worthwhile or interesting out of it, I will be very, VERY surprised.

You need to put some thought into mod ideas rather than just trying to chuck a bunch of shiny things together, or you'll never get anything more than halfassed crap.

I don't like putting other people's work down. But, it does seem that there is a prevalence of modders who make new ships and systems and throw them all together in the vain hope that a good game system will spontaneously happen.

It won't.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove any doubt.

Deathhawk - you must get permission to use those peoples mods, also - are you just going to stick loads of mods together and hope somethign happens? Cos that is harder than you think - easier to start from scratch!

You two above - you don't seem to like mods - then here is a novel idea, don't bother reading and posting in the mods forums.........stupid..

In fact, seeing as you are both 'recruits' - i suspect the first is somone posting out of their typical name. Seeing as this persons mod will obviously never be played or seen by you, why don't you two go off and play somewhere else, and stop pratting in the wrong forums eh?

Starting a verbal attack on someone cos you don't like an aspect that many others do is just plain childish.

Deathhawk - good luck to you, you got a big job to do all that!

I'm not posting out of my typical name, this is simply the third time I've ever looked in on this forum.

I don't mind mods at all. I would have thought Porsche's mod was a great addition to the scene if the guy had bothered to do any work on the stats for his ships - giving all his ships, from correllian corvette to A-Wing the same maneuverability was stupidity. I'm really interested in how some other mods turn out. If Kaiten's mod can be done I am seriously interested, and I'm more than impressed by a lot of other work out there. The New Universe idea in particular looks really, really interesting, as do several others. And I think the idea of adding more ships and other such things to the FL universe is often cool, if people put some effort into balancing them.

But these are mods by people who evidently thought their ideas through.

. . . also, Kaiten posted his own mod idea on the board not long after this, if you looked. Not entirely the sign of someone who hates mods.

You're right, it wasn't entirely polite, but it contained within that was some constructive points. If people are capable of reading through to see that, cool. If you're not, then . . . well, I guess you just miss them. Your loss, or not, as you see it.

Personaly, I think It will be a good idea to try it.

I will agree, he has few things in his idea. But as he goes along, he'll flesh out his ideas, ask people in the fourems what they think and what not.

Creating something is a process of evolution. You're orginal design plans are never the same as what comes out. Something is always diffrent.

And as for throwing a bunch of shiny things into a bucket and hope they work.

Ever seen The Rocky Horror Picture show? It's a horrable movie. But it's so horrable it's great. It has a very large cult following.

Never say something is bad untill you've done it.
